I have the chance of getting a 318is with a almost dead lump for next to nothing and the running gear from a e28 m535i,
So i thought 335i hmmmmmmmmmm
But what i want to know is would the Dogled box fit the same as a standerd box?, do they have the same linkage etc..
Cheers

yes it bolts to the engine the same with the same flywheel clutch etc.
but it's not a strong gearbox, unless it's recently been reconned or you've driven the car, i'd bet it rumbles and grinds in the lower gears.
don't wanna put you off! but if you seriously want to do a 3.5 conversion then buy a cheap e34 535i manual, one went recently on ebay for Ԛ£150-ish. much better for a lot of small reasons.
trouble is, if you build it to e28 engine/dogleg spec, then find out the running gear is shagged (probably!) then you can't just bolt in e34 stuff as the custom mounts you'll have used won't fit, and that applies to both engine and gearbox. and the electrics which will need rewiring. and have to have a different custom gearshift made. etc etc.
this is a big deal because if the gearbox IS worn out then you'll be wanting to put e34 stuff in, because the e28 engine uses sensors on the gearbox bellhousing so you need another e28 manual gearbox, and a dogleg that's guaranteed good will be very very expensive!
just some thoughts from someone who'se made more than a few of these mistakes

I know the Box is in very good nick was out of a MINT car and my friend who owns it drove it to check it was good.
But they bought the car for spares as it had done the old "roundabout, spin, backwards, ditch,
But if u think i would be better going for the standerd gearbox then i'll go for that

i'd use e34 stuff. i built my car with e28 mechanicals and then put e34 stuff in which wasn't straightforward!
is he breaking the m535 then? only i own an m535i as well as the 335 ande there's always a few bits on it that need replacing!

not the least of whch is that the m535i is a damn cool car and the e34 whilst nice is not that cool.
