Those of you that have swapped engines for a larger capacity have you registered the change with the dvla?
So on your logbook (v5) does the model of the car ie 318is stay the same?
The capacity obviously changes (1796 to 3430)
Does anything else change?

When i did mine last year i just filled the new engine capacity and new number in and sent it off, came back a couple of weeks later amended
I heard storys of people having trouble with DVLA having to send 'proof' that the engine has swap has been done

I couldnt see anywhere on the DVLA site that says it is the law that you must inform them of engine change.
You must inform your insurers though, obviously

I think you're legally required to inform them of a change in capacity, but not necessarily changing an engine for another of simlar capacity.

The model will stay the same no matter what engine you stick in it's just the engine capacity that is changed. I would have loved it to say 335ise on the log book, would have confused the hell out of the insurance companies lol
I for one didn't notify them after hearing the stories, my insurance knows... that's the important one.

I also believe its who picks the V5 up at DVLA,
if its a jobworth you will get asked to provide proof etc... if its someone who dont give a shit it will be amended and sent back
Send it off anyway, what you got to lose.

My Mk1 Golf has the CC of the engine listed on the logbook (was 1300 & now 1600) but the engine number is listed as unknown

Was done by a previous owner.

stupidly when i scrapped my donor car a couple of years ago now, i didn't note down the engine number and it isn't visible on the engine any more so i thought i was screwed in terms of registering it. i phoned DVLA (tossers) and got some half whit giving me the standard "computer says no!" response. so i was in the middle of writing a letter telling them go give me the number for MY engine, and i had a thought to ring the stealers. Spoke to a decent bloke in the parts dept. and within 30 secs i had the engine number! V5 is now in the post with the new number and cc and i've got everything crossed that i'll be one of the lucky ones but i doubt it somehow.
