Co2/No2 I/C cooling

I was wondering if anybody is going to cool his intercooler with No2 or Co2 or maybe water etc...?

I've thought about using meths or something a bit more volatile than water, and more readily available than CO2.

Problem is that you're basing your power on something that's gonna run out quite quickly, which could be embarrasing :lol:

yeh but it's just for the quick moments when you need it like on the dyno or when you're racing that ferrari

I will be building a custom water mist squirter thingy wich I can activate from inside the car via a flipswitch, water isn't most effecient,but I get it out of the tap, so it works for me 8) ....mmmmm, maybe I can modify a fridge kinda thingy to keep the water ice cold, or a inlet from the dash where I throw ice cubes in, like in a steam train, only instead of charcoal, then the passenger can double up as my ice feeder man, mwhahaha. Kidding but I might give a ponder or two about keeping water cool, any ideas?

Maybe fix the bottle so it has it's own cold air feed? And also so it's away from the warm engine? There is a nice big space under the drivers headlight, behind the brake duct and fog light, been eyeing that up myself for a bottle, as I've lost my water bottle due to the charge pipes being in the way :cry:

I imagine all "electric cooler" systems you can use are going to be parts of air con system, just not sure how you could make it work :mad:

How about rigging the bottle so that it douses itself with water which can evaporate in the air stream behind the headlight and cool the water?

Tis a crap idea I know, but might take 1 or 2 degrees out of it, water generally keeps itself at 1 or 2 below ambient if it's able to vent to atmos :)

Charge coolers do have quite a few advantages over air-air ICs, not least being that they can be mounted anywhere which keeps boost pipe runs short.

They also don't heat soak as quickly in things like traffic.

However, they are more complex as you need a pump etc, and also I'm pretty sure they're not as efficient as air-air coolers overall.

That said, if you were just going out for a quick blast, you could fill a charge cooler with ice water, strap yourself in and feel the gees! :)

the water idea is great, but isn't the exact air to water ratio gonna eb difficult to set, or is this a trial and error thang?? Did i not see fozzy at GSF on sat morning fitting a battery to his turbo'd E30???? I was chatting to ya bout the stand alone ECU setup...

looking into this myself and this is what ive found out!

you have a box that fits inline with the boost pipe, a little bit bigger than 1 of those wafty viper air filters. the "box" is filled with water that is pumped by a little electric pump through a little radiator about 12' wide and 4' tall. there is also a header tank to it that you can fill with ice water. you can also wrap a jacket around it and fill it up with co2 or plumbers freeze it spray! :lol: :mad:

quite expensive new about Ԛ£560 from pace. on a standard rs turbo it gains 26bhp using water that had been in there for 3 months!

you can buy a cosworth 1 that is a intercooler aswell for about Ԛ£50 but its a shame its not taller
