Well, light greens are in, boost is @ 4.5 psi ( for now)
ventured out for a short test drive, set the AFR to 12:1 so its rich as hell but safe as houses, only tickled the loud pedal , no higher than 3K rpms.
verdict ?
well, grunt like a 750i

, effortless cruising on little or no throttle, pulls 5th @40mph ( 1.6K) without a blip, must admit I am stoked
found the boost comes in @ 1.8K with load, I got some very strange looks from a group O lads @ a bus stop, dunno what they actually said but it sure looked like " dump valve , WTF !!!!?? ** , those aint turbo"
next step is test drive with co pilot so I can tune the VE tables, then I'm upping the boost to 7 psi

theres enough fuel capabilty for 40 psi without any danger of going over 100% PWM, never going that high but 12-15 would be the main aims, depends on the intake temps, saw ambient +/- 2 degrees on the short drive today.
Gas bench agrees with the on board 02 so @ least I know I'm sound there.
Mark....... you're next buddy

GIT!
Not wanting to rain on the parade, but Mr Walker's book on engine management says that running too rich and / or retarded can make the heads fall off valves
I'd be working on mine tonight, but I've only just got off the phone to various credit agencies trying to find out why some cunt has a load of my money when I didn't say he could!

Fantasic news ant, well done fella, big pat on the back. Its brilliant when it all comes together. I found with mine that the torque was amazing, just pulls and pulls through the rev range. Yours must go pretty well even with only 4.5 psi of boost.
And whats the woooooshhh chrip like, loud?
How easy is it to get your plugs in and out ant as i clogged mine up after about 20 miles

and it wasa 5 hour process changing them! So you might want to be warey on that front, but better rish than lean.
We need videos and pictures ant. You'll find in top gear when you use it it'll do 70-90mph in no time at all, you'll love it.
Well chuffed for you.
Jon

I know this thing is going to be rapid.

Cheers fellas.
Sal, you got the hot seat when the time comes OK, just do what you're told
Jon, had that problem with the original setup I built, not so bad but you had to remove the turbo to get @ 4 and 5 plugs, no issues on the new setup, its a log manifold and sits well below the plug holes, the turbo is actually side mounted with the core spun to suit, plug change same a NA really dude
Alex, WTF is the Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£ about ?? good luck with that, keep m,e posted on that, its getting far too common for my liking
with regard to the mixture, I set the target AFR to 12:1, the 02 shows 7 out of 11 reds lit so not maxed out, TBH I only drove her tonight because she got V hot idling whilst I altered a few constants following the injector swop, I have turned the 02 feedback off for now,
Agred the mix.retard is no good long term, but sometimes you just gotta

also the M20 valves are 1 piece iirc so hopefully the friction welded heads issue wont affect any of us

That sounds a right result Ant, really pleased your 98% finished after all your hard work !!
That boost comes in nice and early !!
When i looked at putting a turbo on my old E34 every one was saying the boost wouldn't start till 2.5-3K rpm which put me off a bit. May be i will look at a turbo again after i've finished messing with mine as N/A.
Dibs on a passenger ride !

Thats good then, its a pain in the ass doing mine, but thats one less issue for you, still looking forward to some pictures
I find am i'm sure all of you that are turbocharging will find that when you have a problem its had to track the fault down as so much has been changed, all part of the fun though, no pain no gain.

Should rename this second drive now lol !
Ok, today saw the emits tweaked a little, now I can sail through any roadside emits tests and the MOT, idle is still a tad lumpy but you can stand behind the car without your eyes streaming now

, ultimatly I'll have to move the idle map bin as its 50/50 between two at the mo, but will suffice for now
Have leaned the accel enrich of a few % should help with the slight wolliness I am finding, she drives OK now, no evidence of pinking , which is a result
I have a lot of work still to do with the maps, but its well in the frame now, will take a long drive up the M20 tonight and datalog the results, then I'll use that to create some tweaked VE bins, fuel consumption could be an issue though

just done 15 miles or so, well happy, pulls very well, very flat torque response, peak boost I've recorded is 4.4 psi, suprising how so little can affect the feel of the engine
sat in some traffic too, no running hot issues showed themselves, hopefully this shall remain the case
OK, tomoz its 6 psi, then 7 and so on, she'll either blow up ( doubtful but never say never ) or just pull harder with each increase.
added boost cut to the ECU maps before I left work, have hard cut for 8psi of boost, soft limiter @ 5.5, hard @ 6K.
have some photos and a short clip of the car running, dont get too excited though, shes stationary
