M52 manifolds on an M50 conversion

Hi
If I cut off the downpipe flanges and weld on new downpipes with slipover joints on the new exhaust, will there be sufficient clearance with the steering column joint or will I still need to cut and shorten the pipes at the manifold flange so it all sits closer to the block?
cheers

a modified steering coupling will be the best way of doing this rather than shortening the primary tubes. the flanges on the downpipe are better off removed to ease downpipe fabrication.
i used 2 e30 lower coupling shafts alloy welded with a sliding joint, then changed the uj on one end to suit the steering column.

Best photo's for this are buried in the main M50 thread, but with a rear M52 manifold in your mitt, the cuts need to be as close as possible to the head flange and close to,but leaving in,the 'boss' on one of the downpipes. The snag is that this second cut needs to be angled to bring the down pipe from the rear manifold as close as possible to the block.
You need to be a good welder/fabricator to make this work properly.

I used standard m52 manifolds with modded e34 down pipes.
I also modified the steering coupling.
