How hard is it to map an ICV

Anyone know much about mapping an ICV?

Whats the procedure for doing it?

and have you piped it to see boost?

Instead of pipeing mine from one side of the TB to the other i was thinking of pipeing from behind the TB to atmosphere with a camcover breather filter on the end of the ICV and an one way valve in line so i doesnt see boost and i shouldnt get any boost leak past the TB if it does leak :D

Everyone has thier own method of setting up icv but its simply a case of getting a solid idle from cold, hot and avoid stalling under hard emergancy breaking. It can be one of the longest things to setup if its an unkown engine then its trial and error.

If your using ITB's with boostage the way to do it would be to totally block off any vacuum holes nearest the wing side (furthest away from engine) You can get a dedicated 4 or 6 Cyl ICV from Jenvey which is easiest to setup and use.

The one you want is part no DM2/22 for £13

That how you set it up boosted or n/a, you set all throttl butterflys to closed so no air leak then set up idle and things using the ICV only that way you have better control and avoid air leaks, boost creap and other annoying troubles.

To get started say you want idle at 1000RPM you would aim to fully open the ICV when revs are falling around 50% higher revs so 1500RPM is a good starting point, see if you can get a solid idle from 1500RPM down in increments to your target idle speed. Firstly setup AFR then use ignition timing to kick it back in line where needed then rests upto you whatever features your ecu and stuff you like to use to stablise the idle.

Good idea andy, Will do, is your emerald controling your standard icv just wanted to make sure its man enough to do it? :D

So did you just crack the throttle on the stop and then use the Ignition advance stableisation to control it? looked throught the paperwork for not using an ICV and this was one of the ways to do it.

it would be better to us an ICV but after looking at the amount of space i have left and the verious pipe runs it seams to have hit a dead end :(

yes, only trouble is it wouldn't tick over on it's own for the first 1/2 mile but was fine after that. Your engine might be quicker to tick over/warm up than the old M30 as it's smaller and a more modern design.

But, in the winter when your trying to de-mist/de-ice it would have been nice to have an ICV so it would tick over on it's own.

BTW, the ECU(at the time, might have changed since) wasn't compatable with the BMW 3 wire ICV, i was told to get a ford zetec 2 wire ICV.

Thanks for the info, dave suggested a ford two wire to me aswell but the one i have on my IS is also two wire like the ford one so it may work :D

matt your IS bosch valve should work, if megasquirt can control it i'm sure emerald can!

I spoke to dave again after our chat the other night and it seams that i have got my emrald set to control the idle on the ignition advance setting but the " control below ** throttle position" isnt being reached as when i changed the throttle and re-calibrated closed and open the old control below number is below shut on the new throttle so it never reaches the switch point to engage it.

But i re read the manual again the other night and now no how to set this up so once ive got some more time to go over to were the car is i'll have a go! :D
