A "few" questions about my turbo converion??

I'm gunna do a turbo conversion and thought you lot could have a look at my plan!!
Firstly the engine, Im going to buy a late M20 2.5 lump and get it on an engine stand in my home garage.. i wand to run around 400bhp. i spoke to ant at atech and he said a standard bottom end was good up to 600bhp so i plan to rebuild the bottom end, i still dont know weather to machine 7mm of the pistons???? ant also said i should replace the oil pump wile i'm there and the shells if need be..
With the head im planning to rebuild (recon) replace the valve guids if need be, with the valves i dont know weather its worth making them bigger as i hvent calculated the optimum valve size yet.. im going for a cat turbo cam and vernier pully. i dont know what injectors to use?? Im going to purchase a tube manifold off ebay (there are some on there at the mo from the uk any one used em yet). NOW the best bit the turbo i was guna use a t3 but ant said i shoud go bigger. i dont know much about turbos at the mo but ant was saying the exhaust side wants to be bigger 0.8, will a T4 work well for this aplication??
I'm planning on running a Mega squirt 1 v3 not plug and play cos thats to easy........... and exspencive. is this the correct one to use???
ive looked on wiki about the conversion but what do you change when you have a turbo? On wiki they are using a vac tube for timing. With the turbo can you re program from + pressure rather than - pressure?? and dose any one have a turbo map that i can base my set up on?? before rolling road.
With the clutch is it true that the standard clutch can only take like 300ft lb of tourque??? where can i get an up rated one from and how much will i have to spend?? and am i goin to get an "on - off" feel to it... at work we have an F50 Koinig twin turbo with 1000bhp.. it has to be pushed in to work bays incase it lerches forward and fukes it..
Lastly the gear box what do you recomend?????
Thank you for reading all this and i look forward to your replys
cheers

M20 stock gearbox.
T4 sized turbo HX35 at least from the Holsets
you can get clutches for you application from UUC, TCD, Sachs, PPF in sweden, Ant probably sources from one of those I´d think. None have a on off feeling for normal powerlevels

have a look through mine mate, im not really after 400bhp, well that would be lying, i would love to say im after 400bhp, but im after anything above 300bhp!
http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=114385
Iv taken 7mm off the pistons, so well see how far they go, i assume aslong as the thing doenst run lean they might be ok?
I think to be honest you will proberly be looking at the same set up as what i have with your description.......
Injectors im using 440cc ones with a walbro fuel pump
who doesnt want a plug and play ecu! mines still needs fiddling but ant and fozzy are the megasquirt gurus.
as gunni said, stock gearbox, HX35 are around and also the HX40, have a look on american ebay theres a bigger varity out there but make sure you get all the trim sizes first and have a chat with ant about them before you commit!

7mm off the pistons..? !!!
Is that the normal done thing on these?
I didn't think the piston crowns were much thicker than 7mm to begin with..?!

I wouldn´t machine the pistons down when you can run more then 400hp on stock compression

i didnt think you could run that much on stock compression with stock pistons?
i took 7mm off mine and theres still around a 2mm dip in the pistons from how they are originally.
well lets see how long the last yea! i reckon it will be one of those 10 mintues or 10 year things!

I´ve posted a link to a e30tech a thread a bunch of times where somebody made 475whp on a STOCK M20B25 + ARP headbolts,
head wasn´t even removed for install of the ARP´s, no welded head, no nothing.

Well Ant was sayin that you could run like 600bhp on standard bottom end i only want 400 and as a bonus less lag i gess.. Phill i think you may wand to look at going for more power than 300 mayb 500-600bhp???? from what ant was saying.. and you have exsternal wast gate, low comp ,throttle bodys etc.. very cool by the way looks f-ing nice.
my plan is to build the engine first. then buy a mint 320 (because its cheap and similar loom? do i need that loom for MS) would it be ok useing a 316???.. any way i'll use the car then install the megasquirt over a weekend, carry on driving it for a bit and then swap the engines...... good idea?? fully striped, rear cage, two buckets and standard looking on the outside is what i'm goin for. I do have a low budget and want to keep it low, i have lots of resorces working for Ferrari full time and Trackspeed Gt3 racing team part time. beg borrow and steal. ive already collected a few cool parts sofar..
Dose any one know if i can control my boost using MS and wather MS can "see" boost??
Cheers for your answers chaps

thanks mate! its taking its time but the whole car is moving on nicely,
as for the 320, youll defiently, well id assume want to get hold of a slipper for that one too, make sure its a ...... (sorry no clue on what gearing the diffs are) so you get some good top end out of it too!
as for the ms, sorry would love to help but its all imaginery electircal wizardery to me!
i think....think think, that the ms can see boost, i know it has a boost readout for a screen you can run with the ms, however dont qoute me on it!
dont think you could use a 316 loom, iv seen 325 looms go for pennies on 'bay, so im sure you could pick one up nice and cheap over there!
bascially mines booked in with ant for the wiring, plugging the existing 325 loom all back in (as stock) and then the 'squirt gets adapted and litterely plugs straight in, maybe worthwhile doing the plug and play side of things just to hold out on any bull ache........
working for ferrari has got to have its benifits!
im sure a 430 lump would fit under the bonnet of the e30!

ms can control boost, with a seperate solinoid, but you will need to get the ecu set up for that.
andreas at ppf did a test on a stock motor with just arp studs, and got it to 600hp, but they say, 400hp will last forever, and 500hp will last for a long time. all with a good tune though.
but if your staying standard i would sugest you get arp mains studs too, and an m21 deisel oil pump to keep the oil pressure up at high boost.

iv got a spare bottem end at home, so i think im scrapping the na build and will be just building it up as a standerd with arps.....pretty much what i have atm but with stock pistons....
im loving the more and more turbos coming onto the scene!

Indeed Phil
I have 2 more brewing in the workshop, both are not new conversions, just moving up a level or too in output.
MS uses a MAP sensor for load so is 100% OK with a boosted or N/A setup, if you do plan a high boost setup( over 1.4 bar) then may I recommend using a 4 Bar MAP sensor in the MS internals , std is a 2.5 bar unit ( we are all breathing in 1 Bar atmospheric pressure already , hence the upgrade )
Listen to Gunni guys, this is a BMW engine with very good quality parts internally as STD, that said though a few choice upgrades will ensure you investment of time and ££££ survives more than a few miles hard use/abuse.

For the cost of repairing that V8, might as well buy a new Chevy V8 block

Looks like a cheap version of my Exotic Speed one TBH
There is some one on here who's got the cheap Ebay kit and going to be fitting that.
You might want to seek out there thread on the subject

tis me with the cheap ebay kit, the manifold looks like the one i have, if you were to use it just as it comes it wouldnt last long before it would crack as theres just no support in the design, shouldnt be too hard to weld afew bits on it and make a support brace for the turbo, how much is the exotic speed one?
I'm starting my conversion at xmas, im going to see if i can get away with not taking the head off, just need to get some arp studs, any links??

The exotic Speed one is £330 ish IIRC
I got mine from someone who was selling up parts from an abandoned project
See my turbo build thread for pics
As for ARP studs, I've heard good things about VAC motorsports In the USA.They've been recommended to me by a couple of zoners
