A guy in pbmw a few months back was running a E46 m3 engine with turbo in a E30 m3 shell. so yes i belieave it is possible.

In regard to cost i would say it will be very expensive £Â£K.

Possible but IMO too complex and expensive.

S54 requires more thought and work to put in an E30 than a S50B30 or S50B32 would.

I'm not sure that for the extra bit of power it would really be worth all of the aggrevation.

Cheers guys... its what i thought!

However E46 m3 engine are going on the cheap, and it did cross my mind but i still feel that the return couldnt justify the cost!

I may just have to stick to my 325i and tune that!

it looks smaller in size than an m50, engine management is the £Â£Ã‚£ i would imagine.

If you get stuck as obody will topuch the piping, i have a friend who is amazing at stainless fab etc, and has previously done alot of work with scoobies, and custome manifolds etc for them. pm me your number and i will pass it on to him if you get stuck.

he wants to make me a custom airbox for my m5 throttle bodies on m30 lump as he thinks its pretty simple!

Just get as much of the e46 m3 as possible and it will be easy. The engine only joins the car with 2 engine mounts, 2 gearbox mounts, and the propshaft. How difficult could it be?

Depends who you are...

Brianmooore or ian332isport... piece of cake.

Dodgy Dave at Dave's motors... will definitely find it a challenge!

Wel you know what I mean, the more of the donor car you get, the easier it becomes. If you just use all the e46 wiring loom and swap in the e30 lights and heater controls etc etc, then it's easy. But trying to bodge the e46 engine loom to use e30 fuseboxes and stuff would be harder.

Just gotta ask yourself how much you really need an s54 lol.

It's a good engine...

But you could have the same reliable horsepower from an M20/M30 for about the same amount as an S54 would be... plus probably less Grey hairs :)
