I am looking at different prop solutions for my 3.5 swap. What is involved in reversing the centre bearing on the prop? Is it a straightforward job or do i need to change/modify anything?

Cheers, Mark

It doesn't need reversing.. You fit it like an E30 one, it just looks reversed as the prop has the splines on the other end of the prop.. Just fit an E30 one the right way around.

You'll know what I mean when you see it.

Im confused...

-So are you saying the 328 prop bolts straight up to the E30 with the 3.5 running gear, but the prop looks reversed due the the way it is made?

- Are you saying just to fit a E30 prop instead, which is presumably less hassle?

once you have it in front of you it will make sense, honestly! if you where to fit the bearing in reverse it would set the prop at a funny angle. you fit the bearing to the front of the rear part, instead of the rear of the front part from what i remember! if that makes sense! not 100% sure the 328i prop is right for the m30 anyway. ask rav335, he will know for sure.

The best solution, providing your engine is set in position 3. (nearest to bulkhead) is to change the gearbox flange to the smaller m20 one and the 325 prop will bolt straight on

Seems to be the easiest and best solution to me...

and I wouldn't worry about the strength of the M20 flange & guibo, since most of the turbo guys have the original shaft, flange, guibo and tranny.

I believe the reason for the bigger flange on the M30 tranny is mainly because of the much heavier car it has to move around, so more torque is applied most of the time.

A Heavy E30 M30 will hardly exeed 1400KG if a Touring, as a E34 535i wighs no less than 1650KG, so I reckon the M20 Tranny smaller flange will do just fine...

Just my 2 pennys...

Cheers / Pierre
