Hey guys

Well some people might remember this car from a year or so a go when I last posted about my car.

Its gone through a bit of a transformation.

Basically I brought the car as a none running project and set about sorting it out.

I soon found out that the engine was totally US and decided to source another engine. I did give serious consideration to upgrading it to the M50 as I do deal with the E36 range all day long as a specialist breaker of them.

Anyway after about 18 months of thinking about doing something with it I finally did. I decided that because it had taken me soooo long to even make a start on it that I better just stick what was in it back in.

So cue another M10 and a weber conversion carb.

After finally getting it running it was MOT time. To my utter amazement it passed first time with a few minor warnings. I was gob smacked, especially considering it had been sitting unused inside my workshop for basically 2 years!!

With the car now legal it was time to get the styling sorted!

The wheels were to first things that were changed and I came across a set of Keskins. Not to sure on the model number I think they might be KT3's but anyway they are 9" at the back and 8" or 8.5" at the front.

They were originally on a seat ibiza, hence the stretched tyres but in reality I dont think this car needs the stretch but it looks sorta euro for having it so I will leave them as they are till they are due for a change.

Yesterday I paid a visit to Powerflow and had them make a manifold back system with a twin exit. I decided that the exit was best to look oem in a way so I went for a very simple plain looking tailpipe. I also ensured that the exhaust was of a reasonable volume and had a powerflow centre box added.

This is how she now looks today....

So after months of wishing it was done, trying to sell it as a project, finally pulling my finger out and getting it on the road this is how she stands.

My only current gripe is the paint. It needs a paint job to bring it back to its former glory and I have to admit I'm not to number 1 fan of yellow.

Black is potentially on the cards.... this month however she has cost me enough so maybe next month winkeye

No, the one on Ebay was a repo which had the drivers side window smashed and loads of imperfections in all sorts of places, this is how ever very similar in all manners ie , there's not many Yellow M3 rep Baurs out there.

Looks 100% better to when you put her up for sale as a project.

Neil.

colour wise I'm thinking a solid colour for a very simple reason! damage...

Being fibreglass means its fairly weak stuff (although to be fair this kit seems a lot stronger than any fibreglass I have seen or dealt with before). There is always the chance of catching the curb or something which then sends shockwaves through the panel causing the paint to fracture.

I know that this will happen with any colour but a solid colour is a lot easier to paint and colour match than a mettalic item.

In an ideal world I would prefer something like dolphin grey, etc which to me is a better colour than black but for the sake of ease of future repairs it might make more sense?!

It looks good. But with the baur roof something looks a bit wrong. How about a custom hardtop? winkeye

I say Delphin grey :D Or Vulcan grey is a nice solid colour :D

May look sleeker with the rear wing removed?

Lose the spoiler. Ruins the look of the thing.

Looks good mate,go for black will definetely look better.Mines painted in bmw jet black 2 which is on the newer 3 series toyed with a few other colours but I think this was the best choice.Mine has 9's on the back but they still sit to far in for my liking so ideally would need something larger although yours does not look to bad,has it got any spacers fitted?
As for above would agree with removing the spoiler and yes you can get a hardtop for the rear which probably would improve the styling although they are only available every now and again and I do not think they are cheap.
Good luck with the rest of the build.

Looks great, I think the wheels need to come out more to fill the arches.

wheels are the standard et38 for a golf which I think is the same as the correct offset for the E30. Spacers would be ideal and are definetly something I want to look further into. I'm thinking at least 20mm is going to be needed to get them sitting just right. If anyone knows a reasonable source for some I would definetly be interested!

not really a fan of spoilers none of my cars in the past have had such a big spoiler lol. My E36 328i has the M3 kit on it and that was the biggest spoiler I had before this. As for getting rid of it, its definetly a possibility but I'm not sure if the back would look lost without it?

Hardtop would be a great addition but they are about as common as money growing on trees

Just noticed that you have not got no indicators on the wings, did the m.o.t station querie this? thought that it was only allowed on older vehicles otherwise I would have done this myself.

Being a chrome bumper baur underneath all that P40, i would have thought no side markers was the least of it's problems come MOT time !!

lol it passed first time on its MOT, the only advisory was that the N/S brake hose was slighltly deteriorated and that the washer jets needed adjustment!

They are prone to problems though like any E30 but I havent found anything underneath or inside while I've been working on the ramp with it.

Regarding the side repeaters they were not a legal requirement until 1988 or somewhere around there so cars produced before they were a requirement can either have them or get rid of them :)

Hey guys

Just looking for some peoples opinions on a little colour change I've been considering?

Image

Seen this sort of colour used on some very nice golfs in the VW scene and thought that it might be a good colour to go with.

I'm not interested in making a fibreglass car a mettalic colour because repairs would be a mare with colour matching etc where as a solid colour would be nice and easy in comparison.

Please let me know what you all think :D

Hey guys

right what do we all think of this brief photoshop I have done of the car in a similar colour to what I aim to paint it in?

Image

23rd June is the day it goes in for final prep and paint so it needs to be decided asap! :)

The colour above is a solid dark sort of storm grey. Infact its quite a similar looking colour to the border of this website that you see going around the outside of the forum!

or do I go for the following colour

Image

I think its called santorini blue in BMW colour terms but is also quite similar in colour to the ming blue you see on the performance audi's

Caught him starting to polish the car so its going to be nice and shiny

Image

Oh and heres one of the rear bumper to remind you of what it used to look like colourwise lol

He reckons it will be back with me tomorrow and then the long road to rebuilding starts

comments welcome :)
