Well its fianlly started. My car is in the throes of being stripped in readiness for it long awaited bare metal respray.

So far so good with the rust issuse's the only real problem so far is the nearside front wing and of course the dreaded scuttle panel.

I'll post more pic's as it progresses

It's looking like a new wing given the amount of crap that came out from underneath

Gary does it need a bare metal job? I've always thought that bare metal means lots of nitromors (sp) and not a scurfing blade as this takes off the factory zinc plating and defeats the object of the exercise

Escort headrests of some sort. One of the door cards looks rather dirty!

Good luck though

I seemed to think they were from a Caviler (sp) ??

Simon Im swaying as to wheather it needs a bare metal having seen it stripped (its in pretty good shape) I replaced the O/S door and wing 6 months ago and a new bonnet is going on and now a new N/S wing. The rear quarters are fine except for a small amount of surfice rust on the O/S one

The rear headrests are Recaro fishnets from the MKII RS2000. They were on the car when i bought it, probably keep them. The door card is ok I think its the way the lights is hitting it or my crappy camera

Nice one gary. Should look amazing even though it looks pretty dam good anyway. I personally dont think it needs a bare metal.

Andy I'm just outside Glasgow and its a guy who I've been going to for years with my cars who is doing the work.

Oguz I was on the track, got bogged down at the start due to a slipping clutch which was recitied when I returned home.

Holey shit bades ( excuse the pun) hope I don't see any of that on mine.

Thanks guys will keep you up to date as it progresses. As has been said not too bad for 17 year old car

Been at it again and the painter came up today to have a close look at the car. His oppinion is that it does not need a bare metal respray as i have already replaced the O/s front wing and door last year, the bonnet is being replaced as is the N/s wing.

So the only other part is the N/s door which is perfect as are the rear quarters. So a full respray is happening just not a bare metal one.

Heres some more pic's of the car being scotched today. Next step is to have some minor dents repaired before we block the car and the holes being sorted on Saturday.

Things are moving on now.

BMW seam sealer is a pain in the arse. It hides amulitude of sins. The holes that I thought were wee ones turned out to be a bit bigger than first thought.
