My not so new 2.7 pics - just another rusty turd

I thought i would take this oppurtunity to show off my new 2.7 engine courtesy of the genius that is Ant of A-Tech. I've had it a couple of weeks now and boy what a difference it is to the standard 2.5 i first had. Still running it in and cannot wait to take this lump over 4000rpm to see what it can really do.
Would like your opinions on the idea Ant came up with of de-badging the inlet manifold. I love it seeing as the car is de-badged on the exterior, it goes with the theme nicely.

I do keep it above the 2000rpm mark whenever i drive it. Trying to clock up the first 1000 miles so i can take it back to Ant for a once over and Bam!!! Im offski!
Its a Lightened and balanced bottom end and all new internals. Polished and skimmed head (885 cylinder head casting). Cat Cam. 327 chip. New valves rings oil pump and bearings. New verier pulley. Still need to get hold of a BBTB but aint got the moola for that.

I was on about taking it over 4k...
Get an ITG filter on there too with a BBTB.

Oh ok. I've been advised not to take it over 4k until i've clocked the first 1k miles.
I think its all about the BMC Carbon Airbox next.

Dont worry Jamie, I made sure the rings had bedded in before handling it back to its owner.
This was built around a bored B20 casting( 2 litre) opened out to blueprint piston/cylinder clearances, using ligtweight slipper pistons 1/3rd lighter than staock ( late) units
Crank had a slight diet and all built up using OE shells, bolts and oil pump
Headwork is minimal as a new casting was required, the old one was FUBAR with corrosion and a bent valve, mashed valve guide and scored to death cam bearings , cam is not that hot a spec due to Jag( Giggz) being a londoner and wanting more low-mid delivery than top end, suits the ride to a tee.
Still annoyed that paint has sunk though
Enjoy Mr Jag, see ya soon
PS, howz the heater ? nice huh

Ant knows much more than me...
It's all about the piston rings seating...
On the motorway, low revs to over 4k and let the engine brake, do that plenty of times and you're good. Ant will probably of told you all this anyway.

The debadged inlet looks ok but you shoud've done the same with the head in that case. I bet it goes though! lol.

Didnt really want to get rid of the BMW rocker cover. I quite like it there. Getting rid of the round badge however was going with the theme. Glad you like.

I am mate. Im not a driver that thrashes the car about but this 'running in' business is starting to irritate me a bit!! All in good time though.
Its a shame you cannot afford it mate as its a nice gradual step up in power from the 2.5 with all the other mods included.

just a though but if you have done the de badge on the inlet why not do it to the rocker cover?
Sounds good if she's a bored out jobbie from a 2.0 block, proper that is!

Very very cool mate. Didn't realise you were having a proper engine built for it.
Mind you, the old lump sounded pretty unwell when Ant took it from lakeside a while ago

Simon- yeah someone else mentioned this but i quite liked having the good old BMW letters on there just remind everyone what car it is and what lump lurks under the bonnet.
Dave- Thank you for your comments. Yeah i went for the full engine rebuild because has you so rightly mentioned the old engine was ragged good and proper! Its given the car a new lease of life. Love it. I just hope i maintain it as its supposed to be and not do anything stoopid.

Thanks guys!!
I couldnt possibly tell you how much it cost me, but if its a guesstimate your after then get in contact with Ant and tell him what you want and what sort of condition your old lump is in. It all depends.
Shaz- You know how it is. Im sure im like alot of people on here where they dont like to reveal to much about future plans but are quick to show them off when its all done!

When its all run in i'll meet up with you and we can have a quick sprint. See how it holds up with your beast.

Looks great Giggz, engine to match the looks now! Another top 2.7 from A-tech
Bet you cant wait to take it over 4k, i was the same with mine!

I just took it out for a rip now and its just so nice having that power when you are cruising in 3rd gear around 2500rpm and then plant your foot and your off! It pulls so gracefully and with the standard back box it doesnt make too much noise so people dont really know you are coming up behind them and then suddenly over taking them. Love it. I need to get it on a track (without these wheels and stiffer suspension) as there are just too many cameras out there!!!

The A tech 2.7 really comes into its own on track cos they rev so well, as soon as mine had done 3k it went to Castle Coombe then the Ring, great way to losen um up a bit
Your gonna love it when its run in, enjoy fella!
Any plans for MS at a later date?
Re:

Revs so well??!!! Before you know it you are hitting 4k plus in everygear!
Aint you the fella that came back from the ring with a mangled car? If so i feel for you mate. Did you keep the engine?
MS. I cant quite get my head around how this works...is it where you lose the airflow meter and have standalone management? Ant did explain it to me but ive totally forgotten what he said.

Then you can do away with the AFM and have not restrictions to the throttle body. More air in = more power. Key to an engine is getting air and out.

Yes that me, the engine and all the other goodies have been re shelled by Ant, have a look at the Good bye ODE, hello YUC thread in the photo gallery
MS for sure if you want more power later on, ill be going for this soon for mine

Nice one Jamie. Im learning slowly but surely.
Oguz- thought it was you. will have a look ot for that thread but more importantly im glad to hear you could keep all the goodies. I think i will go down the MS route hopefully in the not to distant future. Sounds like a nifty upgrade besides going for turbo etc.
