E30 Zone

Thought I'd may as well start a thread on this car.

Car is a June 1989 325i sport, that had an H27 conversion.

Currently on 100k, pretty much full history, and all old MOT's from new.

Car is in need of some attention, rear valence around battery and towing eye is rusty, rear arches inner and outer need replacing, it's also had a knock on the front, and requires a new front panel, nothing too major, and in my view worth saving.

Was this a conversion from new or done at a later date Simon?

From what Simon has said so far on and off forum it is not an SP, we have yet to track an SP down in lhd form let alone rhd.

To the best of my knowledge, no rhd were factory built from new, only lhd direct from Mr Hartges garage, similar to the Alpina/Sytner concept.

Birds brought the cars in post sales and did the aftermarket conversions to the customers specification/requirements.

ahh another simon, with a similar car in a different flavour. You going all out nut and bolt or just a bloody good sort out?

I'm thinking all out, replace the lot job, some jobs have already been done, the engine has had a rebuild in the last 10k miles (been in touch with the PO) the block has been blasted and painted, so no rusty looking engine.

I had a giggle to myself actually when I read one of your recent posts, as I also have a bag full of new BMW stickers ready for after the paintjob.

I think we are going to have to find someone to print some paint code labels for us!

Simon i'm working on this, i know bss325i (Barry) needs one also, so i'll keep you all updated on this.

Engine being done is a head start on me, my engine has had a "rebuild" not very well it would seem.

Mine is starting to add up nicely now on the money front you'll enjoy it though as i am so far! it's amazed me how much effort there is in stripping down the car and storing everything in some sort of logical order!

Only rust I could find, and it seems to be surface..



If only the same could be said about the rear arch, note the perfect line where the bodykit ends...



Bootlid has no rust, but does have two small dinks..

how are the inner arches? particularly the drivers one up near the petrol filler??

As Matt says, whats the petrol filler area like? Tends to be the worse place.

Looks like a really nice base for your project, are you going to replace the whole rear panel and rear quarters, or is it surface on the rear panel?

Yeah, i had that on my old 316i the inner arch on that side gets holed and so does the filler generally.lol

Simon that looks like a proper hartge RHd manifold to my eyes, the roll bar doesn't. I've got genuine hartge bars on my touring and they are sprayed blue and rounded on the end for the adjustment not square like pictured.

Looks like a home made bar?! i mean it's mounted very odd as it needs to come up at the front as the drop link at that angle won't be up to much me thinks

Yeah, I wondered about the angle of the link, wasn't until I posted the pics on here that I noticed it!

So not proper Hartge bars then, they look like they've been on the car a few years, so would be nice to find out what they are.

According to the sales receipt I have that came with the car, it had the full suspension package, including the roll bars...

That's rear shelf is nothing compared to mine!

Well my bars are painted blue and have hartge and the part number in white writing on them. They could be real deal ones. I might let my set go when i'm done with the touring if you want them? Barry bss might have a cam cover for you soon if he's buys this engine for whatever reason.

RD did rear strut braces, but that looks like something else to my eyes. Sparco do them don't they?
