A Very Wet Mallory Today.

Made the Journey to Mallory today.
The weather was unbelievable, rained heavy all day, had ideas on going to the pits chatting to drivers and JimmyC but the rain was that bad just walking through the pits was a nightmare.
So I took the kids back to the car dried off and sat to watch the Action. The First historic Touring car race was an exciting race, really nice to see Jaguars, Rover SD1's and an RX7 battle it out.
Next up was the Easytrack Production BMW Championship, a unbelievable turn out, this is my first time watching and it was pure E30 heaven, really close racing, evenly matched cars, well turned out cars. And despite the English weather a very good race.
Towards the last few laps there was a coming together right in front of me, it really hurts to see these cars get smashed up 3 cars involved in all, (see pics.).
The next race was the Ferrari challenge which unfortunately didn't even see 1 lap, at the end of Stebbe straight 2 cars collided send a matt black Ferrari into the wall at speed, the racing was stopped for about an hour as paramedics sorted the guy out, (The last picture) I really hope the guy is OK.
All in all a very good day racing and thanks to JimmyC for the help just a shame the weather wasn't better but thanks all the same.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures the rain never stopped.

That big long bend round the lake is a killer in the wet. I spun my 328 on a track day there, coming out of the bend it went, as luck would have it I spun down the centre of the track. The armco there is only about 20 yards away, good job I had my brown pants on.

Looks like it was a great day, apart from the rain.

Was very very wet, especially in the BMW race!!

Great pics! and glad you had a good time!!

All drivers were ok, and all cars I reckon are repairable. Number 91 is getting collected and bought back to sunny Essex this week and jigged out of the banana shape it is, the blue car may need a jig, and the super tourer needs more inspection (the other side is where the inpact was).

Real shame as 91 and 85 were having the battle of the race!!

Great drive by the winner Robin Welsh, and Mickey Daly (2nd)

he fezza driver hurt his leg, the time took so long as he didnt want them to cut the car, as that would have meant non repairable

12 tickets will be up for grabs for Combe on 28th May!!!

Hmm I might be up for a coombe ticket or two, as its rather local winkeye

Those conditions looked awful, how do you stop the nose just ploughing on and then getting bags of oversteer? Talent? :)

Unless theyve changed it since I was last there, there used to be a bump just as you enter the big corner which makes the car leap up and lose grip!!

Great pics mate!!

Blind luck mostly :D :D . Gerrards in particular, it was trying to balance oversteer/understeer on the throttle but there was so much aquaplaning that any kind of driving theory was a joke, everybody was just getting round as best they could and hoping for the best.

I think its the hardest bend to take on any race track in the rain. Mind you the opposite camber after the straight at brands is a bit hairy. Asways ended up onthe grass.

Sounds like good fun brian. Its something that would worry me, going that little bit too fast in the wet...

Undeersteer....more understeer....off camber...over steer....correction....over correction....grass...oh sh!t!

Being smooth helps a huge amount I'd have thought.
