OBs Engine swap - Chrome 318is (Lots of pictures)

Well... After driving the old girl for nearly 5 months, The M10 was starting to throw totally random 'Tantrums' after covering nearly 170k.

It looks all harmless there, but trust me... She developed some nasty habits!
So....
I brought an IS engine, power steering rack etc, prop, the rear swing arms set up, diff and complete exhaust system off of Eko, The donar car had done about 120k.

Tony had already unbolted the complete front cross member with the engine, gear box, struts, prop and half the exhaust system still attached all ready to roll under and bolt onto mine

First of all my M10 and all the ancilliaries were removed, leaving everything except for the radiator attached to the engine.

So out with the old as they say!

Whilst the M10 was out it gave me a good chance to clean and check over the whole engine bay, although the rest of the car is scabby in places the bay is quite clean and rust free.

The twin coil brackets had to be removed from the IS, We drilled the spot welds and used a chisel to remove completely, I then went about welding them into the correct position on mine

I then primed and painted the brackets the right colour.

But not being happy with my welding, I got Chris to come and do the job properly! (Cheers mate)

We then had to get the White donar IS high enough in order to get the engine and gear box with the struts, cross member and prop still attached from underneith, we tied a 'rope' around the bulk head and put the engine on a mini trolley more commonly used at Super markets to cart bread crates around

Realising we couldnt really do the same thing with my car in order to get it high enough with out damage (On a declining drive way)

The engine, prop and cross member were seperated, and we went for the good old fashioned over the top option.

Next on was the cross member including the power steering set up.

In with the new...

A little persuasion finally saw the new engine snuggle in there....
Tony bolted all the prop, exhaust and mountings etc back into place, and checked all the fluids.
Chris welded on the extra exhaust bracket that we had to cut off of the IS.

Then it was just a matter of fitting the rest of the electrics and the ECU, the C101 plug on the M10 loom connected perfectly with the IS engine loom... Which was fortunate
and she almost fired up first time! There was a small problem with fueling (Just a muddle up with the relay in the wrong socket).
Theres a couple of videos to follow!! (I dont know how to post them?)
We decided to leave the 3.91 Diff in place, as I am going to fit the rear set up after replacing the bushes etc (But I will proberly still use the 3.9 diff anyway)
All in all it was a great 3 days and with the rain only mildly starting on the Monday we were lucky to get away with it!
I went around Eko's again today to fit the IS front struts as they needed new discs and pads... I wont mention my heavy handed ball joint removal
Im pretty happy with the over all performance (although its still early days) It pulls really well and is a hell of alot better then it was!
Thanks again Tony, I owe you big time
