The IS looks lovely mate, Congrats on getting it back.
I remember seeing the bit in PPC about the 190e, such a shame.

I'ts quite curious, the difference of the engine Bay between any e30 (For.ex: w/ M20 or even S14 engine) and any Merc engine.
Compare space left, distribution of parts ,aso...
It's much better so watch an BMW engine as an Merc engine. (Although I love Merc's)

I had a 2.0 190E not so long ago, it had done 240000 miles and was totally original. It was the best handling car I've driven that hadn't had a suspension upgrade or wider wheels e.t.c. Very well built machines.

I owned a rather handsome 190E 2.0 (rare manual), with Zender kit and AMG style alloys, lowered in black. Got it cheap from an auction in SE London. I managed to spin it in the wet also, though fortunately only bent a rear suspension arm which was replaceable (albeit a complex multi-link arrangement on those).
The main snag with it was the alloy sump kept getting cracked on speed humps because of the lowering - when I came to sell it, even the buyer managed to ground it during his test drive (heart in mouth time!)

He lost the back end at speed and hit the nearest tree.
It was scrapped after all the good bits were robbed from it.
I miss it alot, I had the oportunity to buy another one but turned it down in favour of the IS as its cheaped on parts
The down pipe for it was £350+VAT then theres the cam sprockets...there about £150 each!!! If you had to renew the cam chain & do it properly the bill from the parts alone is around £1300

Really?
Many moons ago i had my MD's 190E 2.0 Auto for a month, it was the worst handling car i've come across, so damn slow too! May be it was just a bad one, but it put me off 190's for life. Although the cossie is tempting!

I had a 190E too Mark... put me off Mercs for life as well, until I got a '95 C280 Sport, and was even MORE dissapointed!

Nice cars !
First ever merc i got into was a 190 taxi in Germany, kinda stuck on me as the germans use them as taxis all the time ! in the area that i lived they nicknamed the 190 as the plastic mercedes probably due to the amount of people who bought them to say they had a merc (status symbol) but couldnt afford a bigger one !
However i will admit to once nearly buying a 190 evo until the missus caught wind of it and sulked for days saying the neighbors will think were dealing in drugs or something, so i bought my first touring, lowered with BBS deep dish and in a beautiful daytona violet, which she sold for pennies two years later as she divorced me ......

Thanks Geeman. Missus won't thank you though, i already spend half my time on here, I'll be full time now.

this is my old merc i loved it dearly. wish id never sold it. back then a tv screen and dvd player in your car was really something special.
also note my 55,000 mile pristine, never seen water dont even wash it with water, mk3 decour cortina.. i should have kept that car too

Can't say I usually admire the Mk3 Cortina, but a nice mint low milage car over 10 years old is always special. My Merc on my earlier post has yet to clock 50,000, and the BM to the left is still under 40,000. Would like to swap the 190e for a nice 320ce one day when I spot that low milage minter by the side of the road!

True, but the beemers dont have a coolant header tank, or self levelling suspension header tank...they have to go somewhere
The rest on the right is all MFI w@nk, could have done a better job on the inlet side of things in all honesty...so much spent in development of the chassis, the engine development was outsourced to cosworth with 185bhp at the fly, and to say that it done over 200k miles it WAS still looking mint.
The handling of the 190's is supurb due to multi link suspension on the rear (8 links I think if I can remember)
