Baton Rouge meet and dyno day

Well, after much ado, we finally pulled off the BR meet and it was a blast. Good turnout and good times.

For some time now, I've had the stuff to make the M30 AFM swap, but just lacked motivation to get it all installed. I finally got a friend to make me a custom bracket to mount the AFM to and installed it. Then the 19# injectors were next. Also added the K&N air filter. After that, I decided it best to dyno and install the AFPR to tune the a/f ratio.

Friday night we made Thunder Racing in Baton Rouge, LA., where Jonathan works, and did some baseline runs on my car. Then we installed the BMP AFPR and did some more runs. I was very pleased with the results.

The surprising thing was that I was running fine up until about 5500rpms where it began to lean out a bit, but after we adjusted the AFPR we were able to get the a/f mix set and picked up a few horsepower and some torque in the process.

We ate some hotwings at Hooters, did some driving Friday night and then some more today. Good stuff. Branden lost a caliper bolt and ended the afternoon drive, but it was a great trip.

Big thanks to Jonathan and all the guys at Thunder Racing in Baton Rouge for being so helpful and going out of their way to make everything right, I couldn't be happier!

Uh, this is me:

Blue line/baseline run, Red line/last run. The torque spiked but was running about 151lb/ft.:

Hiya mate, interesting, mod there, so its a stock standard AFM for a M30 engine, i see you had to make a bracket to hold it but do you need the bigger injectors to handle the new AFM?
Are you running a programable chip?
And the max power is stated in KW right?
thanks

Yes, it's a stock M30 AFM, but you need AFM w/part # ending in 027. There is an 016 (I believe that's the number) but it will require swapping the electronics from the M20 AFM into the M30 AFM, and it's just not something I wanted to do.

Yes, the 19# injectors are to increase the fuel flow from the stock 14# injectors to better match the increased air flow from the larger M30 AFM.

I have a Mark D 93 octance perf. chip (available here: http://www.dsylva-tech.ca/) but it was already programmed before I did the install/swap of the AFM, etc.

As for the KW, no, it's rated in HP. IF that's what you mean.

The gain is fairly substantial considering it's measured at the rear wheel and NOT at the crank. The graph shows a gain somewhere in the range of 6-8HP in the 5500rpm+, and about 5-6TQ in the same range. Not too bad imo.

I have my lights wired so that I can run fogs w/out the headlights being on, and they were switched on at the time, so when he pulled the "parking" lights on so that he could see the dash, they popped on too.

Some more pics of Branden's badass(he's running an M50 swap) E30 (I'm sure he won't mind):

Thanks for all the compliments.

As for the sign, I just climbed up the back. There was a bigger one years ago I had climbed and took my pic on, but it's not there anymore. These are a couple pics then:

Yeah, I didn't realize until AFTER I had climbed that smaller sign that there was no arrow. Lol.
