Mick, from arp's own site $298 or hack engineering £290,

Not cheap though.

Got a set my self on the way from the USA, dread to think what the import duty will be
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

The problem is with buying anything from the US, it costs the same amount it $ as in £ if not more. I bought mine from the US at $200 a set and had a friend bring the to me. Now instiling them retrospectively. PITA...

The above is being done as I was planning to S/C the car but now are going the turbo route. So reading the forums, I see that some people just used 12.9 high tensile bolts.

Also note that the numbers I had were with:

Dilbas cam 284/272 (not being made for Dilbas any longer)
The cam was not in the correct timing at about 7 degrees retarded.
M30 injectores - leaking 2 injector and ~12lamba ratio making it too rich
A set of headers.
3,73:1 diff
215/45/16

I tried 3 chips and I can tell you off the bat, its not all that its cracked up to be. 1 online chip I bought, running rich like rich stall at ~10afr all the way to 2000rpm. Ide was rough, so choose the best compromise. Making 4 dyno pulls that day.

All this was later rectified, I guess wat I want to say is. Choose what you want to do by getting informed first. Maybe get to the magical 200hp target. Sorry for hijacking, wont to it again... Promise.

i'm not building a forced induction car but reading what you have dealt with was interesting .

i'm just going to bolt it back together and fire it up and see how we go , jim had a good running car so i hope i achieve the same .

Understood, I wasn't building a FI motor at the time. Just wanted to say that... I guess the dangerous thing to say. "While you're there" and can do the things you might contemplate later :)

You should be fine with a 2.7 eta piston bottom and 885 head. There are always plenty of things to look into apart from the engine.

Keeping an eye out on this thread :)

yes i am going back to the original plan of a 318is red wagon , the 2.7 eta has worn cam journals so i'm splitting that engine up for sale ... i have front coil overs, a twin bar alloy strut brace and koni rear dampers & - 40mm rear springs for it and a rear scorpion exhaust section not just the back box .

i'm ordering some paint ... not rattle cans fot the front bumper, valance and door mirrors .

i managed to get a couple of hours to spend on the touring and pick up where i left off , first up a gentle bath to get rid of all the dust from about 10 months of storage ...

got the airline out first and blew all the heavy crap off , then a snow foam and power rinse ...

Image

Image

Image

started boxing up the interior again as i've used the car to test blower fan speed resistors, wiper motors, speedo clusters and c/l relays. it's had it's uses while in the corner :D

Image

fitted a leather handbrake handle and gaiter from the parts stash and realised there and then i must of sold the cars front c/console by mistake ffs ! luckily i found another good one to replace it with
.

Image

i got 1/2 ltr of paint for the valance i'm going to use which is in zinobar red at the moment and both wing mirrors need painting , i was going to have both bumpers painted at the same time but had a quick brainfart  ....... although the bumpers were a bit faded here and there i thought i'd try some G3 on a corner of the front bumper ....

Image

Image

Image

very happy with that so off with the rear bumper and away we go 8)

before ,

and back in the unit till next time

cheers , that's what it's all about :D

speaking of which this is the valance i've kept for this car , it's zino red and very much a good clean base to start with .

Image

Image

Image

purchased some of this as it came recomended for oem type finish instead of stonechip out of a can

Image

paint waiting .... so are a pair of faded mirrors

Image

the rear seat bases were ok but not perfect as far as wear goes and one thread had lifted on each seat base :squint:

Image

Image

only a trained eye would spot this

Image

fear not this worn out tat is to be replaced with superior parts .

Image

and i'll have to dye these bits black to match the rest ... pretty sure i have a good 3ltrs of black carpet dye left over so nowts the bother :D

Image

the dyed door cards are out and getting swapped over for original black items i've saved for this car .

Image

Image

in the bin with this mess .

speaking of mess the drivers seat is a bit naff but i need the lower seat base so i can make a new seat as good as the rest of the interior is going to be [ for a 27 yr old comfort trim ] .

the foam is distorted due to an oversized arse been squashing it for a good few yrs ... + it's getting a bit thread bare ... all i need from this crap is the metal runners and seat base frame .

Image

Image

servo out revealing more joy 8)

Image

it'll be reet ! :D

i understand your keen to buy this car , i do think my first price won't buy it now .

other costs have crept in now in the form of two wings replaced and painted along with that the paint on the bonnet is polished out and will have fresh paint with the wings .

i still need to convert and fit an e36 m42 mill to fit in an e30 and look the same by changing the sump, wiring loom , intake and exhaust manifolds ... it's a project car that i'm not rushing to sell . i've never driven it yet

i had a job to do on this that i know would bug me if i just left it ..... the rear passenger doors central locking does not work so popped the loom out and tested a boot solenoid i had easy access to and the it all works from the car side so the solenoid needs changed and it looks a right pig of a job :cens:

Image

the bonnet looks good but it under close inspection you can see the thin paint through the shine and an old burn mark from polishing an old owner has left me to sort out ...

Image

it looks better than it is in the pics .

Image

also the wings had turned thin a perforated at the bottoms along with polished out paint

this one was full of cake mix on the bottom section ...

Image

and this one started to drop to bits so i'm not using these ,

Image

the black wing is not being used it's not good enough after inspection it's also perforated at the bottom

Image

i do have up in my loft though a nice pair of white wings i've had stashed for a few yrs as spares for my 318is so they will be seeing some red paint soon .

anyway i decided to tackle this c/l issue and after looking at the doors condition it has a paint chip right on the body line and a couple of small dings but nothing really bad .... i had another red touring door in my stash that is now getting used instead as i had hoped it would have a working c/l solenoid BUT ............ no fookin chance :x it doesn't even have one fitted when it should have :?

i still went ahead and changed the door anyway :D

old door and it's chip/s

Image

Image

new door ........

Image

a bit spanner action later >>

Image

new door fitted ...

Image

now i need a rear door c/l solenoid hmmm , good job my spare parts game is strong winkeye

this one works so i'm liberating it !

Image

plenty more spares here should i need anything else

Image

some fiddly bits to play with , thetop one is the latch that some c0ck womble fitted with no c/l and the bottom one i now have to try and refit ... FML !

Image

wasn't as bad as i'm making out after i got stuck in , the door is now fitted with door card back on and working c/l , think i'll have a beer tonight  :D

used the family bus to take x2 m42 engines, an engine crane, engine stand and a box of m42 parts up to the unit .....

Image

Image

Image

also got a pair of of good solid wings test fitted and removed for paint .

Image

Image

Image

made a start on swapping bits over from the e30 m42 onto the early e36 m42 and cleaning engine parts up while it's out .

Image

i had to take the exhaust manifold off the e36 engine as it won't fit the e30 m42 zaust .... this took about 3hrs just doing this ... only x4 of the studs/nuts came undone , the rest i had to cut the e36 manifold pipes off close the flange so i could get the grinder in and cut the nuts off to get the flange off . i knew i'd still be left with about an inch of remaining studs to work with from there .

this pic shows it wasn't straight forward with every stud ... around 10 of them needed heating up about 3 times at least in between the half turns i could get on them with i high risk i could snap one in the block at any time .... they were well and truly stuck fast , i shit you not .

Image

out comes the last one ..... thank f00k for that 8O
