Hi, recently bought a 318is and will be restoring the car to standard with a few added extras.

A bit about myself, been a mechanic for 5/6 years now. Started at a BMW specialist, then Land Rover specialist and now working for Audi. Working for audi has given me the itch for an older car that needs work as mainly new and very near new cars only tend to come in.

So I bought this little gem

First job is to strip it all back remove engine, transmission front and rear subframe. Interior is already removed ready for some rust treatment.
Once sub frames are removed I will be polybushing and re-furbing/replacing worn parts.
Will update with progress pics as soon as possible! Cheers

It is black. I'll be keeping most of the body work as spare for my car.

Made some progress on the car, the engine is ready to come out minus the prop. I've decided to rebuild the engine and supercharge it using the Gkd kit. Want to keep the car near standard and as balanced as possible.

Found some more rust so I'll be sorting all of that out before the engine goes back in and giving the engine bay a spruce up! Can anyone recommend anywhere for decent paint?

Only the one picture as every time I change tab it logs me out the site and is driving me crazy!

People on here have used paints 4 u mail order.

Aerosol or pot of paint for spray guns

Avoid holts or halfords paints their not at all good apart from the primers

Got some paint from paints4u.com. Quick service, 1 item missing from order but I'm sure they'll sort it out!

So I'm after a bit of advice, I'm painting the front wings. I have put 3 coats on (181 diamond Schwartz) and wanting to know if I need to wet sand them back before lacquer. I'm sure I've read somewhere that they need to be wet sanded due to being metallic.

And if I am to paint a panel that is already the same colour do I go back to metal and start from primer or just key the paint so the new coats have something to stick too!?

Haven't got a clue when it comes to paint!

Thanks in advance!
