So what means S535 ELEKTRONISCHE TEMPERATURREGELU
This option you can find mostly late e30 from 90-93 especially Executive edition series.
German WIKI https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_E30#Edition_Executive

With electronic temperature regulator can be equipped all types of salon heater units
1. standard heater only + electronic temperature regulator
2. heater with micro filter (heater body is nearly similar to AC body) + electronic temperature regulator
3. top version: AC and heater + electronic temperature regulator

To get top version of electronic temperature regulator I bought complete car! 324td 92 year packed full with all extras.

and disassembling

here are heater with micro filter + electronic temperature regulator

AC and heater + electronic temperature regulator
Image

let's refurbish it
change to new heater, evaporator, thermo/heat isolation, isolation on vents, blower motor

check electronic and connections
Image

compare all versions :)

heat isolation

cut

and hardest part :D

Image

evaporator
Image
Image

Image

almost ready
Image

never forget check heater valve... officially it not repairs but technically it quite easy task
so here are examples what are inside after 20-30 year of e30 life :D
Image
Image
Image

finally one of them cleaned, repaired and checked if works. when you check be aware of valve polarity ;)

engine
as mostly all things do by myself at free time except serious paint works and welding than engine build process take long time
finally build stroker m20b28 with schrick 274/288 camshaft and other slight modifications but keeping all setup street legal and at comfort zone
some random pic of process

actually most time takes all stuff around engine - about that next posts later :)

Travel to my friend’s service premises with car-lift and other valuable service equipment. There will happen magic :)

Few days of changing hoses for brakes and fuel. OEM hoses is straight with proper endings and made from iron. Bending need lot of patience and mistakes not forgiven.

Changing all bearings, sealing’s, friction plates, make cosmetic, proper measurements of teeth contact etc. Lot of work and quite expensive.

My car originally was 318 it did not equipped with check control
To get this option is only two ways: change complete car wiring loom or solder in necessary components
Possible donor wirings what I get was worst condition therefor decide solder

AC Retrofit

new hoses

Image

Image

additional electric fan diode located inside fuse box

Image

AC compressor - bad example
rust is everywhere because r12/r134a gas was very aggressive and if system stays long time open/without gas happens this

Image

Image

Image

AC compressor - good example

Image

Image

moral of stroy
buy new one :D :)

Image

my cat accepts it is as good enough

hoses instaled

List of items if you want retrofit AC

1. AC set form donor - heater housing with wiring, engine bay wiring for AC and additional FAN, old evaporator, hoses, old salon heater matrix, mountings, switch etc.
2. AC mounting stuff - plastic plugs, clamps, screws
3. HNBR O-Ring set
4. AC Compressor - if long time not used and lost hermetic not possible reuse due heavy rust (especially R12 compressors) of compressor inside parts!!! New alternatives Seiko-seiki, Bosch - Behr, Frigair etc.
4.1. If AC compressor can reuse ”“ perhaps need repair sealing kit. Problem that is difficult find correct kit and vendor. If need new bearing for magnetic clutch.
5. New front condenser
6. Electric fan with resistor and mountings. Old style fan is pure efficiency and loud. Better change to new style like e36 or aftermarket like Frigiair etc.
7. Engine bay wiring set for el. fan, dryer and compressor - if don't get from donor is still possible order new OEM from dealer. Often eBay sellers forget or do not know about engine bay AC/fan wires. All e30 have connectors in place at fuse box for AC/fan wires.
8. Hoses - only part is reusable. Big problem is inside rust! Mostly need get new OEM or made custom. If you have m5x series engine then only custom made hoses will fit to compressor.
9. Mandatory - new dryer
10. New style dryer safety switch (mostly old one not possible reuse due rusty valve)
11. Evaporator expansion valve compatible with r134a
12. If feels that old one evaporator is not good enough or leaking (color evidence) then change to new.
13. Saloon heater matrix - also the same story like evaporator
14. Saloon heater matrix valve - often leaks, need repair if possible or change to new

Sorry about my English if something is wrong. Grammar is not my strong side.
