I've managed to get hold of a 1987 318i shell (and a load of parts) thats never been on the road ( has been used by students in a college)
Just a few pics of it at the moment
There are a couple of bits that need a bit of paint due to it being caught (the front wing is the main bit)

Haha thanks for the comments
Well managed to do a bit of digging with the car and it turns out it was donated to the college by BMW.
The car has been registered but BMW kept hold of all the documentation so everyone was under the impression it hadn't been.
I've managed to get the reg number from the BM system and applied for the V5 from the DVLA.
It turns out the car was built in november 87 and sat around at BMW until December 92 when it was registered and the donated to the college.
The only random part is BMW have declared it new at first registration so its on a 1992 K reg.

Well the logbook has arrived so can now start to decide what to do with it (didn't want to put anymore money into it before i'd got the paper work)

Well done getting the reg docs, does it have the usual VIN plate? Early facelift car
Strange it has the diesel bonnet lining
Perfect base for a high power engine conversion

Its got a vin plate riveted above the drivers headlight and the number is stamped into the scuttle
Didn't know its was a diesel lining
Haha i fitted a S50 to my last E30 but didn't really like it as a everyday car so i'll leave the big power for my M coupe. Thinking of keeping this as a 318.

Very interesting find!
That will be the only K reg zinober red E30 in the world then.
And K reg 2drs are very rare anyway.

i'd be drenching this in wax-oil ,in the chassis rails ,s/roof tray, inner scuttle panel ...in fact everywhere i could get a nozzle .....this will be worth a good few quid in not many years time .
fookin epic find !

thanks
have done all the inside with loads of clear wax oil, got the space heater blowing on the car to warm the metal up so the wax oil ran into all the little gaps.
have steam cleaned the underside and going to underseal it all then wax oil in all the rails.
will take the front wings off so i can get into the drain channels from the scuttle and when i get it back up and rolling i'll be able to move it to our workshop (the garage is a tad small to get round it), once its in there i'll be removing the glass to replace the rubbers so will drop the headlining and coat that side of the roof and sunroof tray up

no, after the advice given in the thread i started on the subject i am going to go for the polyurethane underseal, just waiting on BM to get back to me with details of the stuff they use.

You have some bare metal to treat then?
No need to take the wings off if you can help it, you can get to the drains easily with the arch liners out, plus it saves breaking the factory seam seal on the joins

nah no bare metal just wanted to give it a good coat of under seal whilst its clean to help it last a bit longer.
reeto that makes sense, will leave the wings on

Get that thing basted in waxoil for gods sake, you have a real gem there.! How much did you pay for it?
Also, if it's an '87 shouldn't it have chrome bumpers?

Underseal just makes cars look shit and bodged, it does nothing to help preserve them as it dries out and flakes off eventually, waxoil will run into any cracks/splits in the paint/sealer and dry to leave a wax covering on them, water/air cannot get through wax, plus the underside still looks like it should

well been a busy year and not really had the time to get round to doing much to the E30.
bit of an update though. its now on its wheels and has the engine and box fitted.
running gear going on
more of the trim going in
swapping the chrome to shadow line trim
lights and grill on, splitter fitted to make sure it lines up before being painted
