Richy325iTouring already did my rocker cover so was looking odd with the silver inlet, what you use to do a neat job on sanding the bmw logo on it back down to silver? I dont wanna mess it up.



Also not sure if it needs another coat or not, looks a bit light.

Craig how did you do it, were you lazy and left it on the car or did you take it off. Purely for selfish reasons as i want to know whether i can be lazy too and spray it on the car.

To get the bmw logo up I would use wet and dry stretched over something completely flat(5mm mdf or the like) and sand it off being careful to keep in perfectly horizontal.

I was lazy, took the thingy off that connects the inlet to the rocker cover, sprayed that then covered everything up and sprayed the inlet while on the car, just took my time and its as good as it would have been if i took it off.

Excellent you have given me inspiration to do mine now. Did you use any de-greasant or wasn't it as dirty as mine.

Looks a hundred times better like yours, well done.

None needed on mine, engines pretty clean for a 16 year old lump..

not yet, i've just put a bin liner over it and revsered it into my mothers flowers to hide the damage.

Looks neat Craig.

Best way to sand it off is to get a small block of wood and wrap the wet & dry paper tightly around it and then use that to sand off the paint. This gives you the best surface and you won't go sanding any unwanted parts.

Dont mean to Hi-jack but i suppose the best way to get the lines up is to use wet and dry? as my rocker cover is sprayed totally red and i want to get the lines looking silver!!

Sandpaper will work just as well dudes.

wen i did the one in my old IS i used ridulously rough household glasspaper. it gets off the dirt stupidly easily

then work through the grains and it all turns smooth

i've done mine dude, sent ya a pic.

I cleaned it up with a wire wheel on the end of a drill then I sanded down useing wet and dry paper until I got to the finest grade, then I got some wirewool and autosol and buffed it until I got rid of the scratching of the sandpaper then just polished it up with a rag and autosol looks sweet to me

Yeah mate going to do that as well! should bring the engine bay right up to date!!

Try a flap sander on the end of an electric drill/screwdriver..and then grinding paste.
