recently bought an e30 and starting to bring it up to former glory with slight improvements. startin with the mechanicals. apperently some of you may know the car as "avo" its now back on its original plate G***EOH (the kids have named it geoff???)
Its a 320i auto converted to m20b25 manual, whoever has converted it has done a cracking job, looks factory fitted and very tidy. the car itself has done a low 65k
jobs i have already done since owning in the last few weeks:
Service including:
plugs
filters
new oil
valve clearences
diff oil
gearbox oil
cambelt kit inc water pump and tensioner
new coolant.
things i want to do in near future:
replace/repair rear arches (slight surface rust)
refurb the bbs wheels
upgrade the brakes
upgrade the shocks and springs
stainless exhaust (manifold back)
LSD
pics to follow

not keen on the cloth interior or the mtech steering wheel, in the future i'll be looking at dark cloth/leather seats and an original none mtech leather steering wheel

I quite like that, bit of a jem! You're right though, some leathers would suit it nicely!

Haven't been on for a while but an update of the car:
I have now done rear crank seal and clutch, major service including gates cambelt kit.
I've had some paint work done on the front end of the car as someone ran into the front of me, minor damage but ended up needing a new wing, arch liner, indicator lenses, bumper and paint, all genuine parts used and insurance didn't write it off or catorgorise the car which was very lucky and took a lot of begging and fighting with Lancaster to do so!
Just need an exhaust to get him back on the road now, been too long since I've taken him out!

Yes, I bought G820EOH 9 years ago with 68k on the clock for £1000
I have owned it 4 times..
really good to see it getting some attention.. it was best when it was a 320i auto

the diff suspension and noisy box was from his car too,
luckily the 3.73 diff droned out the sound of the layshaft ! I sold it for £600 2 years ago with 90k on the dash a suspect head gasket and crumbly rear inner arches,
it wasn't the car I once owned
I think the front wings came from sals turd (pete's passage)? the interior came from a car I dug up from a field after Paul fitted E28 recaro's ..
it used to look like this

How did it have 90k on the clocks 2 years ago when the last 3 mots are all under 68k? (Currently on 68k, done 500 miles in a year) the head gasket has been sorted? Any more info on the engine inside her? The bloke I bought it off 18 month ago was vague

Engine/box came from this
-
http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... light=door
No diff or box noises when I drove the car after swapping it all over

LOL, just get it on the road and enjoy it mate! Who cares about history when it's had an engine swap it doesn't really mean anything anyway! It doesn't really matter on the grand scheme of it

It's not the history of the engine that bothers me, the 2.5 lump is mint now I've sorted crank seal, clutch and everything else, it's the fact that someone has felt the need to clock the car. Engine conversion or not the car hasn't done 68k as it reads, but why would all the previous mots add up? I have worked my nuts off on this car thinking it was genuine...
Hopefully someone has made a mistake, will look further into it but otherwise I'm going to sell and buy a genuine e30

Looks like you have purchased a bit of a franken turd. Doesn't mean it's no good, it's been owned by some skilled forum members who will have done good work on the car.
Don't worry just enjoy it.! No e30 is perfect.

All the more reason to keep and enjoy it surely?
I bet you never paid a massive amount for the car itself, I'm sure it was a reasonable bid?

I see it, that the more work you do on a car the less it's history matters. It's not like the cars original anymore and really what 20 plus year old car is?
I would feel a little hard done by but would swallow it soon enough and just carry on enjoying. The cars a beaut.
Unless you really want an all legitimate low mileage car; then you'll be starting again only to be confronted with the same potential problems.
Keep and enjoy it

Most have an interesting past and/or rotten, it wouldn't bother me if the example was nice like this
