E30 318is, Slammed, Streched, Cambered. Update: Oct 16th

So the story begins back in 2009 when i bought my first E30, it was a lovley unmolested 316i with 80,000 miles on the clock. Being 17 i then proceeded to molest and rape the car for the following two years.

This was what i ended up with, which some of you may remember...

And after two years of spending all my wages and being moaned at by the missus i decided it was time to move on and shamefully i did this...
Image

Now i can't complain to much it was a really fun car, reliable and modern BUT it had no personality.

Soon after the missus had to go to and the E30s had to come back.

That is when back in April 2012 i bought this...

Image

A 110,000 mile 318is, it was a bit scabby and needed a lot to TLC but it was all there and a solid base to start on.

Here are some photos the day after i bought it...

I drove the car like this for a couple of months whilst i saved up some money.

After i had some cash behind me it was time to get i into the bodyshop (AKA uncle daves garage)

After all the scab and nastly little bits were sorted the fun stuff began first thing was to build and exhaust then coilovers and some new shoes...

Exhaust time!

And it finally all came together rather nicely and now she looks like this!

So that’s the story so far, this plan is next to start on the engine, after much pondering ive decided to stay away from the M50/M52 conversion seeing I’ve been there, done that and well every man and his dog do it now.

I want something different so im going to build a tunes M42 engine! so watch this space!

PEACE!

It will be good to see what you can get out of the M42.

Yeah I can ever find the justification for real BBS! One day when I have the money.

Yeah since these photos it's been lowered more and I have about 3/4 of an inch between the floor and gaurd!

What spec are the wheels and tire sizes? Looks great, just goes to show you don't need a tec2 kit to have a good looking e30

I like this! been looking at these wheels myself

For what they are these wheels are amazing, people moan about reps butnins refuse to spend more money on wheels than the car itself. They are 8j front and 9 1/2j rears, If i remeber rightly but they may be 9j. Ill have to have a look at the tyre sizes when it's not raining next!

ah so they're 8j fronts, I was wondering if they were 9's all round. What tyre sizes do you run and have you needed spacers at all?

Re:

20mm spacers all around

Tyre sizes are
Front: 195/40r16
Rear: 205/40r16

I've got Falklands all around they gave the best shape when stretched

Good tyre choice. you meant falken tho?

I think a black rubber heckspoiler would suit it better IMO 8)

Cool, were the spacers out of necessity or just for a better stance?

What exhaust/backbox is that in the pictures above, the single exit one? Did it go onto OEM BMW brackets or was there some magic involved?

Nice car! :)

It actually was a back box from a 'suped up' Fiat Punto that cake into work and was being scrapped, I liked the end on it and thought i can make something work before I get something that sounds better. Put It on with abit of magic and it sounded amazing so I'm sticking with it!

So the latest is, i went for a pretty hard drive Friday night and it dumped all of its oil. after much worry and panic i put it up on then ramp. I dropped the bottom part of the sump and found 3 bolts, these were the bolts for the upper part of the sump and has caused the gasket to blow out!!!

Tomorrow i will order up some new gaskets and get her back on the road! It would be that the first weekend of nice weather ive had it would break!

Anyway heres a couple more photos with the moved number plate

This car has really taken shape, is it complete now or do you still have other things you want to do?

Re:

by aaronsmart
Umm nothing major cosmetically, it's got lots of little jobs that most people wouldn't notice such as new wing mirrors fuel flap and bumper, then it'll be engine and drive chain time!

Any upgrades on this?

Not atm, apart from going lower and replacing the sump twice things have slowed due to move out so funds are limited, i got a rocker cover and bits to get powder coated to make the engine bay a bit tidier and remade the exhaust! i have a couple of recent photos though...
