Jim's Chromie Thread - Hail Storm Aftermath

Thought I would whack a thread up on my car as I havent really done one before... Bit gay, but all you other homos are doing it and I feel left out.
I have had the car coming on 2 years now and it's my pride and joy.
I paid £367 off Ebay and went up north to get it... It had problems on the way home but it got back and a few good zoners helped me locate the problem pretty sharpish
Here she is when I got her.
Found a hole and welded it up...
Then covered her in more primer...
Me & my old man did a very quick touch up on the paint, which is still looking rough to this day but it did the job... Got her onto some bbs as well...
Had a numerous amount of small issues but sorted them as I went along, with the help of the zone yet again...
Then took her to Santa pod.
Then just random pictures as I have gone along... Bought a few morsels from her and slowly building up the spec.
Then a few pictures from today
Plans are, full respray, one day.
A nice new stainless exhaust, nothing sporty, just a twin exit with standard s/s pipe, much like the oem twin exhuast but in stainless.
Fit the 13obc at some point when I get the last few bits to complete it.
fine 2 minty fresh black leather sports seats as currently rocking comfort leathers.
Cruise control, air con and an oem Blaupunkt stereo once I find these bits.
Jimmy hill chin spoiler, although I want to try one first as not sure i'll like it or not. I tried a tec 1 but they look pants.
Then just lots of little stupid things I need to find still.
I'll keep this updated as I go along, but doubt much will be happening.

Wipers dont work yet, just the arms and the motors in place... Wanted to get a new washer bottle before I installed it all in, and need a new relay thing that is part of the kit, I have one but its corroded like mad.
Also don't have the headlight rings with the catches on them on there yet either as I seem to have only got 2 when I got the touring.

So need another 2 with the catches on.
And I think the Jimmy Hill would look spot on, but I didnt like the tec 1 spoiler on when I tried that but thought I would.

Thank Rob

The engine is still a long way off yet. Need to redo the inlet and rocker, then still clean up loads more but its all gradual. Need a spare prefacelift inlet to get painted ready for the swap, got rockers so no worries there... Then need to get the spare set of injectors I have sent off before that happens so it can be done in one go.
She is running pretty much spot on now, little tappety but thats down to the injectors..
The fuel system still kicks out a whine, but I have everything to replace it now bar new fuel lines.
I'm attempting to burn off all the fuel in there and then changing the filter over to see if it takes the strain off the pump. Shes almost empty now so will probably try and unscrew the drain plug on the tank to get the remains out and see what follows.
Got a good tank to replace it though. Just one of them jobs that I wont be able to finish in one day so not attempting it until she comes off the road.

@Kedge - I like them

Think it would look to bare at the front without them now... Plus its a tick on the optional extras now.
@Tuna - Chromies are the only way to go mate! My missus really wants one too now but winter is coming so she needs to buy a 4x4 instead, i'll try and pick her one up on the cheap though at some point and slowly start to tidy it up etc.

Thanks for the comments guys
In the flesh the paint work is very ropey. Really would like to get a respray but its an expense I cant afford at the moment. Plus, if I drive at a good speed, you cant see the paint work in detail

Hobo? Its normal Gypo... Both are true.
And I don't think we'd take you as part of the club mate...
If I was you, i'd cash in on the sport and get a nice chromie to start working on. Told you this loads before. Sports are for loser and perverts.

I hear ya, but there are a few problems! mainly my mechanical abilities, followed by a huge lack of spare time off work... plus I love my sport in a very perverted way, its been a top year with it so far and I can't imagine selling up! May put it up next spring to test the water... but I doubt it

Just start saving up then you tight coont and get a chromie as well... They're cheap to insure, it will only be a second low millege car. And you know i'll help you bodge it up.

Jim, i might be able to sort you out some parts for those headlight wipers from my touring, and a return fuel line if needed
@ Matt, if your plastic bubble car is good under the gay dress then i'd keep it.............and then get a chromie on the side as well

No worries about the Stereo, David said you couldnt find it from memory. I'll pick one up in time, but knowing me, it wont be fitted for ages anyway as i'm really crap with electrics

I was wondering when you would drag your knuckles in Rav.
You parked on a hill or something? I think I can see your wind deflector above the treelines across the field?

Bit to modern for me to be honest mate. Will make my car look brand new with one of them fitted.
I've got one of these in my unit
But the damn thing doesnt power up. I would like another one but the only issue would be ipod plug in. Although I'm sure I could some how get a wire coming from an amp to work it... But I know bob all about sound systems so would have to get someone to install it all for me I think as i'll end up setting fire to the car.[/img]

No worries mate, was just a thought. I've no idea what year its from but its in perfect nick so probably not that old. I know sod all about car stereo's so can't help but if you want to have it as a stop gap then let me know.

Well currently I got some grim sony cassette player in there with the cassette ipod adapter thing, which does, but it just makes the inside look crap. I think your Boston is a fairly early 90's stereo, probably late E30 or e36, but I might be well wrong. Just guessing to be honest!

Woah... September 19th was the last time I posted anything about the chromie
Anyway, small update, will hopefully start to install things Ive picked up and update a little more in the next few weeks.
At the moment she is Sorn and off the road til May time.
Plans are:
Install the OBC bought a while back from Topless, was going to do it today but its pishing it down and it too cold
Then need to install the Cruise Control I have now also got

Hopefully i'll do this at the same time as the OBC.
I do have Air Con but not 100% sure im going to install it yet as it looks like a right pain in the arse
Just been quoted £750 for a respray, I'd take everything out, all doors, trim, lights etc and then he'll be doing all the prep, sort out what needs welding and so on. It my fathers friend and is very good, I assume £750 is a very good price though.
Install the Blaupunkt Memphis and M3 Premium rear speakers and wiring it all in aswell as the tweeter pods.
The wheels need a refurb but i'll probably do this by hand, then hopefully get some descent tyres on the damn things as they're mix and match at the moment
Thats about it for plans this year I think... Debating on whether to upgrade the suspension to someting a bit more premium than gfs lowering springs

I do have some Tech 2 sport springs here thanks to meatballs82 but I just thing it will sit too high for my liking, currently she is on a 40 40 drop and 55 rear profile tyres and 50 front and it looks great, so ideally want to keep it like that but with better gear.
Need to send a day on cleaning the engine back up and touching up/replacing a few dirty looking bits. Its never going to be a rally car, but she still needs to look the part
Anyway, if the weather is good tomorrow, i'll be getting the obc and cruise control fitted, if not, then some point through the week and i'll get some pictures, not that its exciting but nice to keep track of it all.
