new year, new project. finished and home...

hello and welcome to my 2010 project. some of you may know my current supercharged cab to which im a little fed up with. the reasons for this is..... its a cab, england has little if any sun, the last time the hard top was off was last june but the main reason is...its just not any good for track use. flex etc etc
so i picked up this very clean example for a mere £70. minus the dent in the front and back (a result of a sandwhich) its very very straight and i must say, rot free. its a very standard 318i. now no offence to all you 1.8 owners but the only thing i envy of you is your fuel consumption. now in true modding fashion the 2.7 supercharged lump will be finding its way to the 1.8 body. however upon its short journey it will grow to a 2.8.
along with the engine all the running gear will tag along to keep it company.
the day i bought it..
Image
as you know oem isnt for me as much as i like the look of a good clean car. the style of this project is to be bold. i came across some rather tasty wheels on the net and my wife suprised me by buying them. there not bling or in your face and 9.5j wide so some arch work is required as you can see. winkeye
Image
im hoping they will provide the traction needed. :D
now just to let you all know there will be no fibre gash bodykits involved. all arch work is fabricated from sheet steel. once all four are done a little filler work to make them nice and smooth and if my mate has time and funds allow moulds will be taken off the car and made in carbon fibre :D fingers crossed eh! if not then the steel ones will stay put. i wont bore you all with to many progress pics as there are alot but this is the drivers side all fabricated
Image
just to add the wheels are rota d1's, they look like big mini lites i know but i dare to be different.
i will update as i move along with this which will be every weekend.
enjoy (or not lol)

Top work, how are you lowering compression? MLS? Also I guess you'll be straping the head down with some ARP's?

Looking for both of these at the moment. Nowhere's cheap! Found a company called Co-ordsport who seem fairly reasonable.

£166 for ARP's
£211 for MLS think this is a typo mind, more like 240-250?

thanks for all the comments so far guys. i had a day off today so a little progress was made.. n/s front wing is now done and im happy with the look so far.
Image
i also added a swage line to brake it down abit..this will be followed through the rear quarters also
Image
just the n/s rear quarter to do (saturday)
most of the original wing was cut away and the rear quarters so it will be just the new wide arches. no added weight here just incase the steel wings stay put. also the rear inner arches will be tubbed to allow the wheels to sink right in.
just to give you an idea of how wide she is..
Image
for those of you that want to see a few more progress pics i will post a small selection on the weekend.

@ rav.. i think the wheels are et 9 but i will check on the weekend, i really cant remember.

tech-2 i think. well along those lines anyway. i was thinking about m3 one's but im not trying to build a rep and if i was to use them people might suggest it's one. dont get me wrong.. it is loosley based on the m3 arches but with a twist. im just going to see how it pans out and if i like the look then it will stay.

Awesome... and i understand what you mean...

But will you fabricate/widen them to marry up with the wings?

The bumpers will be made to match the wings. Once done it will all look part of a kit.
