I take it this is one of the Bavarian Motorsport converted cars?

By the sounds of things its a very high spec car. Not many UK cars had the big brakes or genuine Recaros.

Does it have the aluminium long range fuel tank in the luggage compartment? Also does it have the Digital readout gauge in the heater vent?

Just one other thing, the strut brace isn't an Alpina item, in fact Alpina never made a strut brace for the E30.

Looks like a really cool car, what are those pipes which run between the engine and radiator, seemingly attached to the exhaust manifold?

Looks like you have a collection of BMW's.is that a preface E30 i see aswell.

The strut brace is eibach BTW

Who built the 2.7 as the car is a very early pre 85 facelift version looking at the frotn panel. the 2.7's didn't exist then, they appeared in 86, sytners in the UK built the very first one.

Also thats the very early 323/320 inlet with the dizzy on the block, K-jetronic management?!

So really my question is who built the engine as all UK engines where built by alpina in germany and then shipped over to the UK with the other parts and installed at Sytners. My guess is that isn't an alpina built 2.7 as they were all based on 325i engine

When the engine was in bits did it have a 324td crank, 2.5 con rods, custom mahle pistons with a different gudgeon pin height etc? is the head an 885 one? that looks like a 2.0/2.3 inlet on there for sure

Purely looking at the pictures it looks to be the 2.5 job alpina made which was 2554CC or something close. They had an eta crank or something and custom pistons no one seems sure exactly of the piston spec. Conrods i think* were 130mm 2.0/2.3 eta ones. These also had the larger Alpina stamped throttle body you mention with a reworked 2.3 head or the 731 type. for the age of the car the simply 2.5 didn't exist then! As these engines where a hybrid of parts they also recieved the full Alpina stamping of the 4 digit mark on the head and some different numbers on the block.

Bmw's own 325 killed off this said engine and this was when the 2.7 was born around a year after the 2.5 was introduced, although production of the alpina 2.5 continued after the 325i was introduced until the 2.7 engine came online as such in late 86

lolll dude take it easy! the car is an 86 model, it has an ALPINA 731 hemispherical head to suit the custom alpina/mahle pistons! it is a genuine alpina engine. I've put that front valance/panel because i dont like the look of the later front panel. Yes thats a 731 manifold with the larger alpina stamped throttle body. Engine is definately a 2.7 not a 2.5, i know how c2 2.5's go because i've got one. The power and torque this little beast has is unbelievable!

its a 2.5 mate if there is a 731 head fitted, or someone has made a DIY 2.7 themselves. Alpina never made a 2.7 like that. The alpina 2.7 or normal 325i pistons won't work with the 731 head, chambers are too small

All C2 2.7's and B3 2.7's used the 885 head but modified with hemi combustion chambers and opened up inlets.

They also all used the 325i type inlet manifold.

over here in our Lovely climate most have rotten away !

my experience with these is that if it has the 731 head fitted and an alpina stamped TB there is a very good chance this car is an early C1 2.5, looking at the pics it appears to have a 323i inlet?

but still a very good car and would look great with the original snow plough fitted

Out of intrest what is the plaque number? It seems to be very close in age to mine which is 0306 , 0304 has been stuck in a barn as a none runner for over 5 years and I've yet to know of another build that was close to mine.
