Happy that the car's been going so well since i got it back together i thought i'd give it a treat and do something i've wanted toever since i bought it.

take a standard m3 bumper, make the underside look like a piece of swiss cheese,



bolt on a big fat undertray, and a nice shiney splitter (set to FWP of course )


bung the bumper back on, and admire..




amazing how much more muscular it makes the front end look, despite only adding about 10mm of depth to the bottom of the bumper.

no clearance issues either, comes close getting on and off the drive, and curbs will definately need to be avoided, but general drivng and country road thrashing are no issue.

i also have some brakeducts to go in now and stop the bumper looking a bit empty, but they need trimming and painting and i havent got time at the moment!

That does look good - ive got an evo 2 splitter on mine, but have always wondered what it would look like with one of these.

Where did you source the undertray and splitter from?

Looks I've always wanted one too! on the list of things too do, but i'm not sure i'd get away with the undertray.

How much lower is the bulge than the bottom of the bumper? Does the 10mm include the bulge?

Did you get it from bob/martin?

looks good to me!! wish i could have made a template out of yours tho to make out of some carbon!

Hi, I bought the splitter and tray from m3bob. They're grp replicas of the real thing, but very good quality, I haven't even felt the need to paint mine. You can still get all the bits from bmw, but by the time you add on all the bits and bobs you're probably looking at close to £500

I've sen just the splitter section added to the evo2 chin a few times and would save having to source a new bumper, or fill in the holes left by removing the chin. Pretty sure bob would sell just the splitter on it's own.

The 10mm is a bit of a guess for the extra depth at the front of the bumper where it doesn't add all that much depth, just kind of squares off the front edge of the underside of the bumper. The hump is approx 50mm deep, but is quite a long way back, close to the front wheels so no where near as much of a problem as it would be further forwards. I've driven over some pretty bad roads and plenty of speedhumps since fitting and have yet to catch either splitter or undertray....

Maxos, bob can do carbonfibre splitters too, I went for grp to start with as I wasn't sure how often it might hit the ground or the local wildlife. If it lasts well I can always upgrade in the future.

got the brake ducts trimmed and painted today, looks much better than just the bare holes

Yep, very. Haven't even felt the need to paint eiter the tray or splitter. Used standard hardware items to fix the tray solidly to the bumper, then used expanding trim clips to screw the splitter to the tray, so hopefully should I hit anything the splitter will come away without doing any damage to tray or bumper.

Did think I might lose it getting on a ferry last week but got away without even a scuff mark.

Oh, and used a cut up rover metro boot seal to fill the gap at the front between the tray and bumper so it all looks near and tidy.

is it a new undertray as well or just nailed onto the bottom ot the standard m3 one. i am aware that the evo3 had a different undertray to accomodate the front splitter from factory and just wondering about m3bobs one?

it's a complete new undertray which needs bolting to the bottom of the bumper.

i've not seen a sportevo one close up, but i believe it to be near identical, certainly looks like it from the images on real oem, down to the cutout and hole 'dimples' for the removable oil cooler plate (which i've left solid as my car doesnt see regular extended trackwork and i've yet to see high oil temps)

the parts i fitted (from m3bob) look the same as those in the post above, just different angle and different camera angles / zooms making them look a little different.

do standard m3s have any kind of undertray? mine was just a bare bumper. i know theyre supposed to have a small lip spoiler 100mm or so back from the front edge of the bumper, but most , like mine, have lost theirs at some point.

i suppose you could just nail the splitter section to the bottom of the bumper, but it would point upwards as it tried to follow the curve of the bumper (unles you have an evo2 chin spoiler)

my m3 has small factory splitter and a small under tray to channel air flow under the car. i want to get the carbon splitter and was stuck on the undertray part as i was unaware that bob did them. the parts from bmw are expensive so this is a good alternative

ive sold a few of these now and have got to say ive had no compaints yet, one guy in the states brought 13 from me, just having my trader status sorted on here and ill list al the parts i do, dont want to upset the mods do i(although i have paid my money to the zone)
