My 1990 325i Sport on a winter evening

Evening all,

I haven’t put up any pictures of my 1990 325i Sport since its restoration over the past year, so I thought it was about time I did.

I bought it about a year and a half ago as a cheap sport needing a lot of work, which it took! It has taken until now to basically finish it, and has been on the road for all of the time except this summer when the bodywork was carried out, and when the engine was done.

Here is a rough spec of the car:

- Dolphin grey 1990 Tech 2 Sport with 150k miles
- Heated black leather seats which have been re-trimmed a few years back
- Rear head rests + armrest
- Rear roller blind
- OBC
- Tweater speakers
- Lowered 30mm on eibach springs
- Remote central locking/alarm/immobiliser
- Electric windows/roof/mirrors
- Check control panel
- Map light mirror/black headlining/opening rear windows/tech 2 kit/LSD (i.e. sport pack)
- Vibe Component speakers/crossovers in the front, with a sony headunit and sony rear speakers
- Leather handbrake gaitor and handle, illuminated all in one leather gear knob
- Ski hatch
- Warning triangle/chock/tool kit/first aid kit etc
- Boot liner

The car has had a lot of bodywork carried out, and a re-spray. It’s had a top-end engine re-build, and practically half of its mechanics replaced. Its constantly serviced also!

Check out this thread for the restoration:

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... 06&start=0

I have done most of the work (except body work) myself, and its taken ages!

Couple of random pics from the last year:

Pictures taken today after a wash but no polish (and its still a bit wet and damp so the cars still a bit wet in some pics)

The pictures havent come out as well as I expected, its a mint car, but the detail doesnt come over in the pictures annoyingly. One thing to do is re-furb the wheels.

Thanks

What a fantastic restoration! It is so great to see some E30s getting this sort of treatment rather than being turned into scrap or hybrid monstrosities.

It looks like you've had a first class job done there!

I have to say that is one of the most original looking retrims as well!

Quite hard to replicate the BMW stitching, shape and creases.

Thanks for all the comments guys, they really do make the effort seem worthwhile.

Barry, yeah would be great to get some pictures of both the sports together. The re-trim is very good, but only the front seats were done, the rears are the origional BMW leather, but match fine.

I will polish it tomorow (first time ever :o: ), sort out the camera and put up some better pics.

Thanks again

Car looks absolutely stunning mate. I've read through your restoration thread and must say that you are my inspiration for carrying out a similar job on my tired old sport.

Top man.

WoW. Looks feckin amazin mate. A lot of hard graft gone in to that.

Very helpful to see the rear end without the quarter panels etc too. Not seen an E30 undergoing that sort of treatment before but now feel structurally enlightened!!

RESPECT!!!

Well done with this mate :D
The Sport is a credit to you ! Can not be many Sports left that are this good and that are very close to original spec as yours is.
One question thou.......are you sticking with the angled tail pipes?

Cheers guys :D , really appreciate it.

In the end I didnt polish it the next day, but went for a drive down country roads instead! (i will do soon)

csl - the angled pipes are staying, because I put a new system on about a year ago, so won't change it untill it's at least partly worn out. I didn't realise they were angled when i bought it, but it has grown on me a lot.

Cheers

What a lovely car, good effort on it all, a keeper I hope Paul?

Respect to Mattyboy on the bodywork as well!

Thanks Jon, yeah its a keeper for sure. It's my only car at the moment (but I dont drive much at uni), but in a year or two I want to get something else to use in the bad weather and motorway miles while this is garaged. Hopefully it will be one of the last sports arround, I dont see me ever selling it!

A big thanks to beardymat for the bodywork (for those who didnt know he did it), its a factory job. :thumb:

As previously stated, car looks really well but after you fit those refurbed wheels, thats when it will really strike home,as a good set of wheels makes a car and is the iceing on the cake!

Your interior is very tidy, well done (again) :D
