Tech1 Sport Restoration.-Engine almost complete

well the Moment I've been waiting for, to finally get my own restoration under way. After about 2 months sitting in my neighbours drive, Neil(320touring) and I moved my Sport up to a unit that my mate owns, where I am going to strip down and rebuild the car. My plans are to strip and rebuild the car myself, the body and trims will be sent off to the body shop, and I will clean, repaint and overhaul all parts before they are refitted. The Target is to have the car finished for Gaydon next year, so fingers crossed we'll see!!:D
On Thursday afternoon I went up to make a start. I had already previously removed the carpet as there is a water leak and the carpet was getting wet, so that has been dried and sitting in Mum's conservatory!!

(I'm getting constant reminders to move it tho!! ) Anyway,I'll apologise for the poor pictures, my camera didn't like the lighting for some reason, so I'll get some better ones later. Firstly I removed the rear lights, bumper and boot locking mechanism, spoiler, and all boot trims. Then the Interior was removed, rear windows and I started on removing all of the items from the drivers door. Then I called it a night.

who ever replaced the Tech 1 spoiler with the Tech 2 item didn't put the material to prevent it rubbing on the boot, as it is almost through to bare metal at one point.
On Friday I done the Passenger door, started on the sunroof(had to cut all of the sealant out for this, great fun), then started on the front and sills
The sill weren't as bad as I was expecting, my uncle who replaced the front wing said they were really bad and I should maybe consider selling the car, but I couldn't do that
Usual front jacking point...
Bumper off....
Front valance...
This must have been replaced at some point as there were two bottom bolts missing and these...
I might investigate this, see what I can find out...
And that's where I'm up to at the mo, I've still to remove the dash, but I'm going to remove the PAS fluid and coolant so I'll drive her outside for that then I'll get stuck in to the engine bay next week!!:D
ta ta for now!!

As said, the start of another great thread I think. The more E30's restored the better.
It looks like a very solid tech 1 shell to start with. Best of luck with it.

MTech2 spoiler on any E30 does exactly what it says on the tin.

Although i would say they only suit full tech 2 kitted saloons.

Tech 2 spoilers on tech 2 sports, tech 1 spoilers for tech 1 sports its how it was made to be! But its all about personal preference

I was waiting for you to say that Barry
No they will be getting changed eventually as I don't want to chance the 17s hitting the front arches when done. Not sure what to tho.

Like BBS Rs, but a bit pricey, also involves a 5 stud conversion, also like the Hartge classics but not sure If they'd suit.....but that dilemma is for later.
Thanks for the comments guys, I couldn't sell her let alone break her.
As for the spoiler, as most are saying it will probably be the original Tech 1 item, I'll take it up to the garage with me tomorrow and take a few pics, we'll see.

Has to be the tech1 spoiler. It suits the early cars perfectly and even looks great on the later cars.
You dont need a 5 lug conversion to fit RS's.
I think a set of Hartge's would look great

BMW records went computerised in around 94, so if it's been serviced or had a body repair at bmw. Their will be a record of it. You've just got to find the dealer who did it if they are still going!
I've had a 4 stud set of 15inch BBS RS. They were so sexual wish i hadn't sold them tbh they are £££ for a nice set but they are worth it!

Well done, good work. Seing that sunroof tray remindes me of what mine was like. Did your interior get wet? The roof skin will probably be fine looking at that.

Yip, I noticed it shortly after I bought the car about two years ago, so I sealed it up. Hopefully it's fine tho.

not too bad for a manky old tech 1 eh Paul
roof skin looks salvageable, youve caught it just in time by the looks of it. Dont think sills are too expensive from the dealers so dont worry too much if they both need replacing, youve come this far so dont spoil the finish by skimping on the minor things.
Oh and Tech 1 spoilers only for a Tech 1 sport, thats just the way it is

It won't be manky for long will it!?
If you think it needs sills then they'll get done, I want as good a finish as possible.
I'm going to nip up tot the garage in a mo and get some better pictures with a proper camera, not my phone this timel.
