hey guys,

this must be of interest to you folks here..

i dont post here often, im more of a reader than poster.. but im just as nuts about e30's as everyone else here..

so nuts... that i have built my own M3...!

you'll never see another like this.. its a one off..

it based upon a big boys toy..an MCD rally car (www.mcdracing.com)..thats a 1/5 scale 4x4 rally car.. almost 1metre long, 12kgs in weight, 26cc petrol engine. i have upgraded much of the car with alloy, the enigne has been interfered with and ported too and no expense hs been spared building the ultimate rc rally car. good for 70mph+ depending on how i gear it.

the M3 body shell was originally produced by FG modellsport back in the late nineties early 00's and has been discontiuned, available nowhere since. upon my special request and with a bit of badgering, astonishingly FG pressed an M3 bodyshell especially for me. it took over 6 weeks..but i actually got it! this shell is hens teeth, gold dust..

the bmw bodyshell comes unpainted (clear), and with no decals or lights...nothing. just a blank canvas in 3 pieces.

i wanted to make it special, with as much detail as possible.. i added miniture headlamps, i manufactured the rear lights out of a rear light unit from my porsche 944. the rubber window frames are cut from windscreen wipers, the bmw badges from dealer issed keyrings, the registration plates are cut from real number plates... the detail goes on. i still have much to do.

its been a long road, a project almost 3months in the making and its almost done.. i got a few pics today outdorrs in proper daylight to show you all how its coming along..

while browsing the pics, please bear in mind its only really 97% complete. i have a short to-do list to complete before its RTR (ready to run).. consiting of the following.. im going to re- make the front windscreen border, i need to straighten the rubber lip on the rear spoiler (made from actual windscreen wipers from a 1:1 car as are the windows frames), still waiting on enamel M3 badges for the grille and boot, bmw badges for the centre caps, new front bumper cut for the bmw (bumper on the car is cut for a lancia delta) and finally the body has to be fitted properly.. i will be doing this without bodyholes spoiling the bonnet, i'll probably use the front bumper to fix the shell onto, and i need to make a rear body mount, the holes under the rear wing. finally, headlights, brake and fog lights are be wired too and the rear light clusters fitted in place..

so..here it is... cost so far? around the same as a nice '90 325i sport.. £2500+

Personally Ive never really understood the fascination with RC cars.

However, i respect your effort and it looks super.

...yeh.. your not getting your wee laddy one of those for christmas! purely, its a big toy for big boys lol!

..the price of these cars can run into thousands more quite easily.. when you consider wheels and tyres cost over £100, alloy bits cost a fortune..that exhaust cost £250.. servos are £75 each (theres 3 of them:eek: )..that shell has cost over £200 to make.. everything in 1/5 scale is megabucks.. i could do a set of discs and pads on my 318is for less than a set for this car!

but its a hobby.. and great fun to drive.. and makes a lovely ornament in the lounge too lol!

Looks fooking awesome!!

No need to justify it. It's done because you could!!

Vids would be good. Needs a diff to go 'diffin' with!!
