E30 Zone

I usually take pics of parts and of the car when the parts are fitted. I have never really tried to take photos of the car just for the hell of it.

Now I have ...just for the hell of it.

I suck at taking photos but I think the car holds the years well and I just wanted a record of how it is usually presented ~ especially now that ity is only a few months away from its 20th birthday.

That's almost exactly how I want mine to look, once it's all finished. I'd have more council smoked lights, and a less council exhaust, but for my own tastes, E30s don't look much better than that one you have there. Mmm.

I don't usualy like 4 doors. but this one does it for me. good job buddy!

The rust thing is absent but we have that nasty sun that just kills plastics and leather. Still, lesser of two evils, as they say.

Yep, I always thought the Supersprints were quite restrained.

The DTM style...that's the upturned tips, isn't it? They're fine, I thought.

I do get a little confused with big coffee can exhaust tips on these cars. I've always thought that looks a little odd.

yep DTM are the upturned ones, a lot of people dont like them on here for some reason (but then oddly a lot of people on here seem to have them as well)

my scorpion zorst (twin pipes) has the word Scorpion on the end of each one and a little scorpion design so I wouldnt worry about it, no different to having a bmw badge on your car, or addidas label on your trainers

Quite a few...

At the moment it has a completely rebuilt suspension (Koni/Eibach, M3 CA bushes, etc., etc...), new brakes (ATE Powerdiscs, EBC pads ~ yellows and greens ~ AP Racing fluid, E32 brake master cylinder, new lines, etc. etc...), Supersprint cat-back exhaust, and a load of cosmetic bits and pieces (bumper inserts, number plate mounting cover/trim, badges, various moldings, strips and trim, gear shift knob, steering wheel, etc., etc...)

I have a Schrick cam, Big Bore Throttle Body, a ported inlet manifold, a 6 branch exhaust manifold all sitting in my house waiting to be fitted and I have my feelers out for appropriate engine management. I'm having a top end rebuild, too, whilst the head is off for the cam, so the head will get a bit of work. I also plan to lose the AFM (bloody restrictive thing that seems to make for a rather laggy throttle). I'm still toying with the idea of individual throttle bodies...I love the responsiveness you get.

Schrick valve springs are on the way. As are parts I need for the head build. I'm also having some of the leather retrimmed and a new boot made for the gear shift.

Ideally the car will look completely stock, except it will move a bit faster than it originally did.

I want it not so much to look "like new" but for people to see it and say "My! That's a well cared for old car".

We have exactly the same goals. For exactly the same kind of car.

It's just a sort of thing that appeals to me. I like the look of the standard car. The only thing I would change (aside form the Recaro shell I have in the car and that is more from necessity than anything else) is to lose the 14" rims and source a set of 15" rims. Much better. 15" is pretty much perfect for these cars. Unfortunately the 15" rims in that style are almost impossible to get in Australia. Still, I'll just bide my time.....

Possibly we both are, but you've justified it with a stunning car.
I haven't got that far yet.

In that last picture, are the wheels cambered?

Looking at -2.5 degrees of camber all round +/- .1 degree

9.10 degree of caster front left
9.12 degree of caster front right

1mm toe on the front, give or take....

-1mm of toe at the rear, give or take....


Ideally I would prefer something like -3 degrees front and -2 degrees rear, but this setup works quite nicely.

It makes a bit of sense.
Which component is it that allows for that camber, caster and toe; and is it adjustable?

The M3 bushes allow for the added caster.

Simply lowering the car increases the negative camber.

After the suspension was installed we had an alignment done and ended up with those readings. I was very pleased. Nothing way out of whack (ergo no major shunts on the car). I have nothing in the car that allows for any real tweaking...it came out as it came out.
