The 3.2 Alpina Powered Chromie

I thought it was about time I dug this out and livened the paint work up a bit. Went round it with some medium cut compound today, followed by some polish and sealant. Bonnet and roof could do with some more but will do for now.
Bought it off a Zoner in April, so its took a bit of a back seat until now.
Totally standard 316 apart from factory ordered central locking, bronze tint glass all round and a full tank of fuel on delivery the spec sheet states
I am the third owner, first owner kept it locked up in a garage for most of its life, as you can see, which I am very grateful of
Pics will do the talking.......
Original dealer number plate
Bit of a bump here

apparently the old boy had a bit of an accident reversing out of his garage
Another scar from the reversing out of garage incident
Non sunroof rightness
Even the running in sticker remains
No damp in here
Off side rear arch!
Someone had to spoil it, probably a mongrel tyre fitter
At least they didnt squash this up though
Keep fit steering
Bus-spec wheel
Road noise FM
Not the usual 21 year old gaitor...
Non smoker
Tidy comfort spec seats.
Thats the standard spec pictures taken,,,
Let the modifying commence

That looks like it has survived the last 20 odd years remarkably unscathed, i suspect it's luck may have changed ?
All is not lost , I am sure you will get big money off a zoner for the desireable M10 carb donk. As i am sure you are aware they are very closely related to an F1 engine and with a little modding 100 BHP is possible !

That's amazing.
What are the plans for it? Slammed on some Borbet As?

First off is to fit the shadow line trim and opening rear glass, a rather nice headlining, then I have a tech 1 kit to get painted and fitted.
My 16 inch Alpina reps will be finding their way onto it eventually, followed by some nice bits off my 4 door

That's obviously a joke.
These cars are only just now starting to look tasty and to find a clean low miles example only to do the above is kind of illegal.
Get under that car with a tub of waxoil and a bucket of hammerite and give it another 20 coats.
Then put it back in the garage and do not open the door for another 15 years.
Heed my advice and you will be rewarded.

This isnt going anywhere Zaust, im not joking either, whats the point of locking away a 316 with no history of any kind? There is more enjoyment to be had from this car now than any appreciation it may bring in 15 years time
If it was a nice spec 325i or a special edition car then yes I would agree with the waxoil/blankets theory, but its not....

But it is 'cool'.
And it won't be cool after you've molested it.
And you can't put a price on cool.
And it's cooler and harder to NOT molest a car than to molest it.
But it's your car, do as you wish.

cool is down to individual opinion. its a nice clean solid base to start from with future mods in mind...

Let's not get philosophical here - everyone will agree, especially on this forum - that the car is cool.
Why not find a facelift, shadow-lined car and molest that instead of a mint original.
Show some class!

Since when has driving around under M10 'manual choke' power been cool?
M50 isnt nice enough for this Ian, I have a couple of engines but im hoping to use this to test the M54 im messing with

Why do these old duffers always buy a really sad miser model and wrap it in blankets ?

. At least he could have splashed out and got a 325. Thankfully he made the right choice on the door and the colour front.
Sorry Ratch, even in south ken a bog stock 316 carb isn't and never has been cool !

i agree, this pre-facelift turd should be kept as is. Looks to be a minter, even though it is only a 316 i have never seen another of them in this kind of condition. Keep it as is
