I have the genuine article a C2 2.7i in Alpina Green and the head went - to cut a long (and painful to recall!) I got lucky and located a C2 2.7i Engine overseas and had it shipped over. Only had 62kMiles and is an absolute corker - fell in love with the car all over again. Worth all the effort - so hang in there. I only get on this site every few weeks so may be late in replying in case. But I'll be interested to know how yours goes. All the best mate.

This is looking very good Trev. I have only just spotted this and read all the way through. I'm loving the detail and the cleanliness. The resized pictures don't do these oil pump assembly sections much justice - roll on the new zone, no picture resizing!.
The C2 2.7 is a great re work of the super M20 - those that profess them to be boat anchors just haven't experienced one. The M20 still sounds like the epitome of what a BMW engine should sound like IMO.

Not very quickly i'm afraid! Been so busy with work and in the evenings. Hope to start very soon putting her back together. I really need to get my other lump riaght out as I need some bits of that. Could do with both blocks side by side rather than 16 miles apart!!!! Simons willing to come over, it's just my time I need to sort.

Funnily enough Trev,it's this thread that's inspired me to rebuild the top end of the Corsa Diesel in my drive,I could have sold it for a hundred quid and made a quick buck, but figure, looking at the extent of your total rebuild,a simple top end rebuild for me should be easy peasy by comparison.
Stripping engines is not something I've ever done with cars, except the head gasket on my 5. Most of the cars I've had where there has been engine issues are close to being scrapped anyway so have been little point messing about with.

Blimey. I'm inspiring
That Corsa shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary. 100 quid these days don't do far and if it's repairable it's run on a thimble of derv and cost you naff all to run. My kinda car. That MX5 I'm using? Owes me 1500 quid ALL IN. Thats the bodywork, full service, a clutch, new hood etc. I've used the car for 6 months at a regular 30mpg, put 6000 miles on it trouble free and had plenty of "tail out" fun
. If I sell that for what it owes me (and it would sell for that all day long) it's better than cheap motoring

Started my work, what a b4astard to work on,so little room, still, the heads ready to come off just have the cam sprocket to line up and remove.

All been a bit quiet of late so a quick update. I hope to steam ahead next week.
I've been waiting for a guy I know to sort the sheared sump bolt out but I can't wait no longer so today the bare block was taken to southern rebore for them to sort it. it will be back on monday and I can start bolting big oily bits back into it.
The block is now honed and cleaned and is ready for paint, I have a box full of parts, a head built sitting on the bench..........sit tight peeps. It's all go from here.

Trev, This has just reminded me about that castrol sticker. Can you email it over again for me please. We lost all of the saved emails when changed to this forum style, not sure why but it was a pain.

I had two shear off the Transit the other day whilst fitting new wheel bearings, one caliper and one hub->shock bolt, cost 50 quid to have the buggers milled out and re tapped.

Well, the head is as far as it can go now until I actually fit it at which time I'll fit the rocker gear. I don't want to leave pressure on the valve gear when it's not torqued down. Heres a few shotes with all the new studs etc. Now all wrapped up awaiting for the block to return.

Today i rushed down to Southern rebore to collect the block. They've had to helicoil the sheared sump bolt thread due to some muppet
trying to drill it out!
Heres the helicoil. A lovely job and all for 13 quid!!! RESULT!

So heres where we are now. Blocks back on the stand (barry I promise you'll have it back soon, cheers mate. All degreased and Honed and just requiring a thinners down before paint. It will be Black (obviously) but i want it to be as close to original as possible. This isn't gloss and it's not true satin. It's a cross between the two. So out with the mixing pot it'll be.

and the all important C2 stamping. You'd think they's have made a better job of it but hey ho. It's the real deal at least.

So from here I have no excuses anymore. Lets get painting and throwing lots of clean bits at it!!!
Ooooh, the front of my trousers are tightening already!

The first for a few years. Originally I cut my teeth on A series Minis. Then a couple of crossflows for mates, a fiat mirafiori engine etc. The last full rebuild was in abou '93 and my brother in laws Metro Turbo. F*cking told him not to buy one. The geabox was w4nked and as it was letting go the oil pump picked up the debris and BANG!!! Funny enough, I used Southern Rebore for the machining on that lump as well.spook wrote:Good stuff Trevor, is this your first engine build?
