Hey all, a few weeks ago there was a CAD modelling thread on here, which inspired me to have a quick go at an e30 m3. Its still a working progress as i havent managed to render it in the better program, but its coming along nicely. What do you think...?

When finished I would like a CAD copy.
Use it with work, well done.

should be finished (rendered properly) in a week or so, but the actual wire model is finished already. What would you be using it for mate?

very good work! I have a 3D printer. Would you mind sending me the model?? I have a SWX license and can read IGES, sat ot STL. I can offer to print a small model for you (with your "modifications" if you have time to add some) in return.

sounds pretty swish! i take it you would just want the wire file for that and and not need any shaders/materials?

what format is the wire file? What CAD package was used to create it?
Do you know what a 3D printer is?

Would like just to print off at work.

I use Auto-cad at work (Shopfitter)

I did a bit of Wire frame/solid modeling At Uni some time ago.

Cheers Gareth.

the prgram i used to make the model itself is called alias studio tools 13.5, and the file is just called alias.wire

i think as it is youl need alias yourself to open it, but i know there is a way to save it in a different format. What format would you need??

not really sure what a 3d printer is no! Does it cut the shape out of a cube!??

I am happy to send you guys the file, but out of interest what you doing with it?

that looks pretty cool!
im pretty sure i can save it to one of those file types. Ill post back up on here when ive added a few finishing touches. Does the model need a floor or cvan it be a hollow shell? And do you create the colours and textures at your end, or do i have to do that here??

cheers

Mate. Would you be able to do some 3d prints for me (obviously in exchange for some spondoola)? What material does it make the models from?
Do you personally own it? Why did you not tell me this earlier :D

And @jondrift. If you dont mind a bit of constructive criticism, I suggest, that the sides of the car looks too flat (vertically). If you know what I mean  Apart from that- damn near pefect :D

yea i did notice that myself, it may be the case of the next rendering program i put it on will fix it, as most of the shape can be defined by the shading, illl have a play and will re post when its finilised :)
