Yeah good job as doesn't sound baby friendly. That looks quality, seems to be bracing the diff mount too? Nice reinforcement of the rear shock towers.

I'll show my fabricator this pic see what he makes of it.

Getting a bit OCD on this car, Its looking like everything is going to be replaced/reconditioned

Image

Image

I was always going to do the fuel lines as they had started to go in a few places but after removing the beaten up tank I think that will go as well!

Image

I've had fuel leaks since owning the car.. it used to actually puddle if I filled the car.. Which I now think is partly to do with the expansion tank and its pipes, but the tank itself has suffered a rather big knock and is starting to rot away at the seams!

Image

Im currently stripping the entire underbody of the car to weld where needed and underseal. Like I did to the back end..

Image

Image
nice blurry wide angled view!

Image

On the other hand the bay is getting smoother

Probably a reproduction over the £1,000,000 genuine part

I was just about to update my progress with similar photos as I got the trailing arms back from the powdercoaters.

Looking good Jamie.

I need to make up my own threaded car bearing inserter or just take em to local shop to do if i can't be bothered.

looking forward to more progress. :D

thanks mate, not really to bad to make but jeez! gives you a fair old work out unless you have a 6ft bar over the spanner haha

Updates probably won't come to frequent as I'm under the shell mainly and can't really get any pictures as its a bit to close!
But”¦

Finally got my hands on the gearbox + prop combination!!!
A huge thanks to DanThe for the link he sent me which resulted in all this for just £51!!!
Image

The e36 328i ZF sport box + prop (basically the 5 speed m3 box!)

Spent all of saturday bidding on, partying over, then picking up the gearbox and then sunday had to sort out some things on my daily driver But managed to get a little bit more welding and smoothing done!

Thanks for the tip mate! worked well!!

Just forked out £340 for a full poly bush kit! gotta admit I was putting this purchase off as its so much money for some hard rubber!! but then again, had to be done winkeye

managed to get the rear beam off but one of the aluminium inserts has snapped off in the chassis so I'm currently trying to pry that out! updates to come when I can find my phone lead lol

Image

Don't know how I ever lived without one of these!
Image

Image

started on a few pipes indoors!

Image

and spent the best part of an hour sanding my rear arb
Image

Image

Image

I'm pretty happy with the bay! but it dawned on me there was a few spots of welding to do in the front inner arches, so before I spray I'm sorting that!
Image

Didn't want to completely remove the wings so just pried the bottoms out the way!
Image
Image

Image

Image

Image
No cardboard template this time!

Image

Image

Image

Turned out okay in the end!

Image

Still got bits to do but its not a hole anymore at least, spent the rest of the evening sanding down and spraying the front arb but my phone died!

Got busy with the lethal weapon and have started to finish up my 6cyl suspension, bought a cheap sand blaster to do it all but its useless so progress is very slow

Yesterday spent a fair bit of time on the right strut leg and front arb cups..

Image

Image

Cut off the old mount for the abs and wear sensor and even went as far as filling a few small dents!! hahahaha sad or what!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Really impressed with the finish of everything :)

Spent the entire night tonight on the rear subframe alone”¦
Its a job I've put off for a while and christ am I glad it's done!

The pictures don't really show up very well but I've taken everything back entirely to bare metal.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Bushes could be here this week so trying to get things ready to go back on”¦ Waiting on brake disc guards so I can make up the new rear brake pipes :(

Work is looking Top man wish i had room to work, I've ordered some backing plates too along with new bolts nuts and washers.

Quick Q: what did you use to remove paint from the bearing housing face? Just wondered on the importance of the face if it needs to be polished smooth for the bearing fitting ?

Cheers

Just a wire brush wheel in a cordless drill.. I Just cut the paint out as the bearings are tight enough as it is! the smoother you get it the easier the bearing will press in 8)

Use the same threaded rod technique you used for the bearings to now fit the the new bushes in trailing arms and sub frame.

Almost all done!! :D

Image

The left strut proved to be ridiculously frustrating!!

Image

Image

But its now ready for paint!
Image

These little buggers also proved difficult!

Image

first one came out with a little spacer I made

Image

Second one bend the spacer then took me ages!! I kept trying to weld to it so I could knock it out, but the welds kept breaking and in the end I realised I could just cut it out with a hacksaw :x

Image

Image

getting some bits painted tonight after fully clearing out the shed and should be cracking on with the shell again :D

Bought a big tin of brushable seam sealer, dries nice and hard but still flexible like the original rubber stuff, so everything that was stripped got a good coating before underselling.
