Well I've been gathering parts long enough now, figured I would start a build thread and get this going. Im starting with a LHD non sunroof coupe originally a m40 car, with an m42 installed by previous owner. He also put on an M Tech 2 kit. I'll be pulling the m42 soon and be putting that in my daily m40'd touring.

I'll be adding part numbers as I remember to write them down for everyone to use as reference as the sticky seemed to of disappeared. I'm mainly using this as a place to keep track of everything for now. Progress will be slow.

I thought it was 325 prop? I've got a couple of 320 props right now. I'll keep one spare just in case. 3.64 LSD

When I started gathering parts I decided to go with the m42 box, now that the sticky is gone I do not remember why. Reading through some of the threads have me considering using the m52 e36 box since I have it. What prop and shift linkages are used with it?

Edit: I've found the m52 swap wiki page

Anyone know what clutch release bearing I will be needing with m52 gearbox using a m20 flywheel?

Wiki says:

Clutch
The clutch has to match the gearbox you are using. No matter whether it's M5x, M20 or M42, the preferred brand of clutch is Sachs. Make sure that this includes the release bearing.

Surely, that cant be right?

EDIT:
Reading through some of the questions about the same thing, there is talk of using either a e21 323 release bearing or going with the m20 one. Both seem to work just fine, apparently the e21 323 is a little bit longer which is what I was wondering about since swapping from dual mass to single. DanThe recommended using the m20 one in a post from 2011, so that's what I'll be going with.

That's misleading. If you use the M42 gearbox, you can use an M20 clutch, M20 lightened flywheel and M20 starter. You will need the gear lever linkages from an E30 320i and a propshaft from an E30 325i. The diff is your choice between 3.64 - 3.91
My parts list is missing the clutch release bearing but I remember changing it (bread technique ftw) if I remember correctly the release bearing comes in the Sachs clutch kit.

Edit; just realised you're going with the M52 gearbox. Not sure on the clutch front sorry!
