I've been told by a few mates I should put a thread up in here.

Here's my e30 v8 touring. It's nearly done, sort of.
If people are interested I'll put up my build thread.

Always interesting to read a build thread, especially when there is a big lump in the car. Get posting.

My mates told me i should whack up some build threads for my other cars.
So here is my BMW e30 touring with a 4.0 V8 in.

The build thread is from another forum so it mightbe a bit all over place, so sorry about that.

Cool, people seem interested so I will try and update this as I go. I've done tons already and have taken pictures of much so far.

Basicly my mate has an e30 drift car that he put in a 2.5 24v and I laughed at him for such a boring conversion. He still did it and I still thought it was pants, then it died so he ripped it out and went to town on the car. It now has e46 front end, z3 back end, full weld in cage and a 4.0v8.
He brought it round the day it was running and I drove it down the road and I was in love. I had to have one. So the build up of parts began.

This is his car.

I have bolted his stepped out wings back in as they weren't really need with a few tweaks

Image
Image

Everyone should drive a well sorted v8 e30 in there life :).
His has a crazy diff so tops out at about 120mph.

In the mean time my other mate was building this. M3 3.2 evo engined e30. The level of detail on this car is awesome, one of my favourite cars ever, but the idiot he is thought he put it for sale as it was finished, after 1 day it was sold. Such a shame.

Both have been in pbmw.

The m3 engine one you could give to your mum to drive, so easy to use, but the v8 one is a bit more of a handful.

Another mate is putting the same v8 in his Nissan s14, that's almost done too.

Anyway, my car. I was on the hunt and was going to do it to an e21. After looking I found the under pinning of an e21 involved a lot of work, money and hassel to get it driving like I wanted. Then by fluke I found the only ever e21 v8 I've ever seen pop up on eBay ( that green 3.0 one doesn't count), the engine just didn't suit the car. It didn't gel well and the car was a shed so I walked away.

Then mine popped up, half built car. It started life as a 318 touring and had a 325 back end and 335 in it. The guy pulled out the 335 as it kept over heating and dropped in a 4.0 m60 v8 and that's as far as he got. The engine was just resting in there. It had loads of bits with it I could sell so I took a punt on it. It was 400 miles away in near Dundee in Scotland and I'm very much in the south. So I brought a tow bar for my car and hired a trailer. My mate and I set off to get it.
It was spot on so much better than I thought. The guy had decided to concentrate on his lovely 2002 BMW and sell this.

After I got it back I stripped it. Leather sold, wheels sold, horrid m tech 2 kit gone, etc.
Then I planned to supercharge it and change all the suspension, brakes the lot.

I brought the roll cage, had the engine out and resting on axel stands, sub frame off, stripped to pretty much a shell and then thought, well I'm kind of back to square one. So maybe I change the engine too.

I was planning on putting an e36 m5 engine in and scrap the touring shell.

I then decided if I was going to do that I was mad to do it to this car. It is sooooo solid and not a patch of rust. The more i took off the better i found it was.

So I thought I'd go mad with another shell and put the touring back together. I do do some stupid things sometimes.

I love early cars and thought if an e21 isn't right for me the an early chrome e30 it is.
I ended up with these :)

Image

Oh and a vortech v1 charger with a straight cut gear set and some 440 injectors :), but that's for another day.

If your now bored, just look at the pictures. If not read on with my waffle.

So I thought I'd turn my touring into a nice road going one and the gold one my out and out drift car.

So back in with the engine, 325 front and rear subframe, polly bushes, rear discs, new lines, new rad, mocal remote oil filter, non niscal engine, new oil spray bars, z3 rack, short shift, e34 530 5 speed gear box, new engine mounts made, gaz rear shocks and Koni front (came with car).
Engine is now in and part wired, it starts on the key and is a tad loud with no headers :).
540 accelerator cable fitted.
Everything is staying under the bonnet because it will be a full interior car. The brake servo was already half fitted in the bay so i will decide what to do with that.

I sold my cage and now annoying need to buy up loads of interior bits I sold last year.

After I brought the car it sat for 6 months in my mates garage. I then moved it to my friends work shop which is next door to xsport hence the pics of there lorry.

I'm sure I have missed tons, but I'll updat as I remember.

As it leaves my friends garage.

Seats all out and sold

Image

Horrid kit gone

Image

Rare Hartge covers sold, it's not a 5.0 so wanted them nowhere near the car.
Image

Wheels gone

Image

All this helped fund more bits for the car. It came with a boot full of bolt on bits which i sold.
I still have to put std rear lights on, amber indicators, std front lights, etc.

New water pump Drive belt fitted

New fuel tank

New battery, but I have decided I may move it to the boot as I want the header tank to go in this space.

Metal brackets made painted and fitted for the electric fan

At some point the brake servo has been fitted here in the past, I think I may move it inside the car as I'm not a fan of the look of it here.

Basicly i started again with most things.

Another new battery, bigger and now in the boot with 4 gauge cable up the car.

New power steering lines made and tank moved

Brake servo moved inside the car, the old brackets on the wing were cut off, smoothed, filled and painted so the wing looks like stock now.

Headers wrapped and fitted with new gaskets and copper studs.
Exhaust fitted, too quiet so the centre box came out.

New oil lines made and fitted.

New engine mounts, trusty hockey puck in one side to balance it out.
I tried doing it without using subframe spacers , but the headers clip the bulk head and its all too close to the bonnet. So some spacers were made and fitted.

Brake servo bracket made, painted and fitted into the car. The resivour will be remote mounted in the bay. I don't like how most people leave this on top and you can't access it.

New clutch, new slave and master cylinder fitted.

Seat frame made and a temp pre production seat in.

Std e30 header tank fitted in the old battery location.

Polly bushes.

Plenty more, but I'll add more later. Here are some pics.

Oil lines, these were a sod to get right.

I brought this lovely 320 e30 as a parts car. It's far to clean to pull apart, but I must be ruthless.

Just gave a few bits a sand back and some underseal just because I'm fussy.

Brakes are all fitted and bled too :)

After moving house and a holiday I've finally had some time to crack on with the e30.

Fitted up wings, front panel, bumper off the doner car, put standard lights, grill and Amber's back on it.
Fog lights and brake ducts all in. The car loooooks sooooo much better for it.

Image
Image

Then trial fitting wheels and making the arches.

More done to it.

LSD diff oil changed, the old stuff looked like new which is good.

Image

Fuel filter done.
Image

Arches smoothed and welded, then painted and just to make sure they were them filled with sealant.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Vabric Arches painted ready for trial fitting.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

I didn't have any wheels for it, so these have gone on. Tyres aren't dot on either, but I didn't want massive stretch on it.

Image
Image

A 3.0L v8 air box is a bit smaller and with some chopping it fits nicely. I've drilled it too so it gets a bit of air. These engines like air boxes and not cones.
New std filter in too.
Image

It needed a washer bottle so I took the std one and chopped off the headlight washer part, sanded it and fitted that to the inner wing.

Air box pic as I managed to put a wheel there by mistake.

Image

There's also a place in e30 hell for me, all the arches were totally rust free.
Rear of the cut off arches.

Wheels still rubbed so even more came off. We then rewelded them again and cut the bolt on arches too.

It still sodding rubs, the fact it's on 10's with 20mm adapters and 235 tyres won't help.

The style 5's didn't fill the arches even with 45 mm spacers so they came off.

Image

Wheels off mine and as my mate is away for Christmas I stole his wheels to try on mine.
So the style 5 are now sat on his in his garage.

More stuff done to it.
Vabric wireless exhaust valve fitted, awesome bit of kit. I went for a hidden tail pipe.

Off to the mot station.

Image

Image

My wheels didn't fit right so I borrowed my mates wheels. A squeeze even under the massive arches, but they are on.

The loud valve!

A few more bits, new barrel and wiper stalk is now fitted.
While I was at it I dropped the whole steering column lower as it sits high as standard.

Image
Image

All fixed

Image
Image

The back tyres were rubbing really really bad and I didn't want to wreck my arches. So until I get thinner tyres I've had to raise it.
I used my e36 Tein springs with the adjusters on. It may look silly, but is only a temporary.

Image
Image

Sky high now :(

Another loud valve shot
