Well the engine hasn't lasted too long and the result is this..

July 28th the engine died.

Back onto jack stands...
Image

Image

once the head was lifted off this was the poor sight that was to be seen.

Image

Image

The block... the sleeve has been pulled down (through the seat and oil squirters and onto the crank

Image

And the piston.....

Image

Image

Image

so a new engine was purchased..

This time a M52b28
August 18th

Image

Image

A customer of the place im doing the work at was having a S50B30 conversion done and had not received a lot of the crucial parts one being the entire EWS set up.
His engine was also down on compression on cylinders 3 and 6. So after a couple of beers the decision was made to swap engines.

So on the 21st i removed the S50 out of the customers E30 and put it on a engine stand and bolted the supercharger up to it..

Image

Image

I then started pulling the S50 down and installed the M52b28 into the customers car

Image

Image

S50 pulled down

Image

Found this damage to the bore on cylinder 3

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

the spacers that go in between the throttle bodies and the head

Image

Image

And now i also have the headers that Matt at the workshop modified for the customer. Im not 100% sure what i going to do with these yet.

Image

Yesterday i took the block up to the machinist to check what size pistons to order. He will be bore the block, be checking the eccentricity of the crank mounting, shave the block mounting surface, finish the cranks conrod mounting surface's and the cranks mounting surfaces. The head is also going to be reconditioned.

I will be ordering the internal parts as soon as he lets me know what size pistons to order.

Yeah this one will be documented.

I have had the copy "RG" wheels for 4-5 years (just sold my genuine set last week)... best bet would be to buy a set of genuine alpinas from either Germany or the UK. A nice set of 16X7 and 16X8 make the car handle really well

Got my M5 flywheel, clutch plate and pressure plate today.

Will possibly need to change the ring gear over or change the cog in the starter motor.

Found out the old oil pressure relief valve was full of silicon so would have not worked.. so installed the new one

pistons 1 & 6 are moved to top dead center ready for head install. I am using a VAC motorsport multi layered steel gasket

this is the o-ring kit you get... a pain to find the right o-ring as they all seem almost the same size..
putting the water pipes together
Image

Image

Picked up another exhaust cam sprocket from parramata prestige
Image

got them machined with the hardening taken off and slotted holes put in.
Image

Image

trial install
Image

Image

exhaust cam put in so that the valve clearances can be checked which seem to be a fair way out. Then shims will need to be swapped or new ones bought

Does anyone know the specs for a S50B30 valve clearance?

Inlet and exhaust clearances are the same for the s50 b30 which are 0.28-0.33mm. ( cold ).

sooo ive started heading in a different direction again as the supercharger is going to be dificult to fit where i would like it to go. so i have choosen to go turbo. Meaning my supercharger will be up for sale.

i have orded my shims finally as this has been a great pain the the backside but i am still waiting for them to arrive. so in the meantime i have thrown the engine in to test fit it.

Image

Image

Image

turbo purchased

Image

Image

I decided to mount it low as there seems to be more advantages than disadvantages for me.

Image

Image

going to have to make a new engine arm so the dump pipe can fit.

Image

a picture of what it would look up top.

Bad tune by the person that tuned it.....

Because i bought a new m52 to bolt everything back up to but a customers car was missing all the ews for the S50 so he asked if i wanted to swap engines. I said yes and became the new owner of the S50. Then i was going to rebuild it and use the supercharger because i all ready had it and i was going to replicate what was used on the tauber built car but with twice the amount of boost.

Now i have decided that instead of running the supercharger down the bottom on the exhaust side i may as well just run a turbo.

So after spending some time away from the project i decided to go back to NA and had to rebuild the engine again with forged CP stock compression pistons. I have run out of time and motivation to turbo or supercharge this car. Plus we are running out of tracks to go on in this part of australia and the prices are only going up.

Hurrah for getting it back on the ground! :D

I dont blame you for leaving it NA, much better to have a working car than a long term project 8)

Why are you running out of tracks?
