true but i started with a 318i at 18 and have worked hard to get where i'm at with my cars. Being a manual type of person i just couldn't roll out in public with something like that which showed everyone what my own "skills" could do

Dan,

The Zone is about diversity, un-rigid rules and fun.

It takes all sorts to make the conundrum up and to unravel it !!

There are, as you know, mint baby E30s, schlags, tasty ones and more and that is the beauty of the Zone.

The car in question is not pretty, but he was happy to advertise the Zone, drove pretty amazingly and integrated well.

There will always be contentions, again a plus for the pretty much free speech of the Zone.

IMHO nothing wrong with the top banner, it is just another angle of Zone members.

I'm not one of the drift fans of the zone by any shape or form but I was glad to see some E30's being used rather than just watching bloody plastic jap sewing machince with massive turbos all day.

It wernt untill some zoners told me what it was doing there I was thinking , cheeky gits put that knackered E30 there and plastered zone stickers over it.

but saying that I am not one for really punishing my E30's as I expect the 325i to explode everytime I push it and I only got the Alpina home today and I already scared myself stupid on the M6 toll road.

did anyone see the rear arches, surprised it even moved...

Guys, The car is on the banner as it was something different that was at the show. We have had mint shiny things on there countless times and thought it would be nice to show something unique.

Turd or not, this is still someones car so could we be a little more polite with the comments?

On a side note, If anyone has any pictures of my car from Pod, could you email them to me at d6dph@e30zone.net Cheers :)

hmm its a functional car built for comps and thats it!! the arches and all the bodging is there for a reason ie---straightened camber at the rear to house the wheels.. its also had a fair few knocks....

it drifts nicely so who the fook cares what it looks like

Metal wasn't "missing" it was "removed" as it was not required by the drifting regulations, was not required by me as a driver, and was simply extra weight which is a bad thing in a competition car.

There is no fibreglass on the car, so have no idea where the dodgy bits were.

I've only recently bought seam sealer and havn't used it yet, so what you saw was probably silicone ;)

I'm not an e30 enthusiast, I like them as a simple cheap RWD car that handle well and are limitless in terms of a performance vehicle. I couldn't give a rats arse if it was 1 of a kind, made by Adolf BMW and painted by Herr. A.C. Schnitzer and crashed into by a Renault Alpine(a), it's cost me £2k has full safety gear and is highly competitive in my sport, it's also distinctive enough to spark debate everywhere it goes :D

As for the driveshafts being at nearly 45deg, let me explain... In drifting you generally want to aim for nearly 0 camber in the back to get maximum traction, track proven not open for debate that's the goal, just a hint of negative is perfect. Since BMWs don't come with camber adjusters I extended the inner trailing arm pickups and re-drilled them. Since I DON'T own any kind of tuning business, and I am infact a 21yo living with his mrs. with a single garage and an average income, I had limited tools and calculations to go from. Since none of you pussies ever go outside of the box there was no information of how much to extend the inner pickups to remove camber so I had to try it out myself.

I ended up having positive camber, but after spending hours and hours putting everything back together and being always limited on time I could NOT be arsed to re-do it all again so I just lowered the car some more. I'm currently at the point where the car is too low, I love how it looks but it's too low as the driveshafts have broken at two events in a row lol. I will now have to modify a spare subframe to have more mild camber correction to allow a higher ride height whilst still having the right camber. This will bring the driveshafts back to a happier angle and hopefully that'll be the second to last reliability problem crossed off the long list.

As for the "Rat Look" I hate that, if I see a golf with a rusty bonnet and a load of stickers in the rear side windows I brim up with rage. My car is a track car and everything on it is done to my best ability with the time, money, tools, and skills available. The fact that I spent more than every penny I earned to try and compete this year along with every free moment in the garage trying to get it working right meant I didn't have time or money to go and buy new panels if they had a ripple in them, and I couldn't afford to take my car for a spray job, and I didn't have time or money to buy new bumpers that weren't smashed up. The rear arches are there as my 0 camber and low ride height meant I had very limited tyre choice which is bad for someone who survives on freebies, me and a couple of mates made them out of metal and cut out the original panels to make room for the wheels at their current position. Thankfully I should be able to get some nice wide wheels this winter so I can then roll out the rear arches into a more bubbled shape which should make them look loads better, and obviously the main reason I made the arches to be like m3 ones (ish) is because they are easily modded to fit different wheels as I'll not be running std. bbs forever with their weak 7j width.

Front arches are being made currently but I simply ran out of time, they were very important as my front arches just don't have enough room and I want wider front wheels which simply won't fit and offer full (more than standard) steering lock.

If the looks of the car offends you then I'm sorry, and if you think you're car is more worthy of a banner place then I'm also sorry, the fact you've spent "time and money" on your car is just not going to cut it though. I work 8hrs a day, and I spend at least 4hrs EVERY DAY doing something on my car, but if you knew me personally you'd realise that it's more like every free moment. Also, my car may only have cost about £2k but to someone in my position that is a hell of a lot. I have spent every penny on my car and on drifting this year, it's only just now I've been able to go away with my gf on a weekend break since before then there just has been no time or money. If you think you've spent more on your car or put more hours into your car this year, then please remove the banner and slate the looks of it all you like, but if you are infact just someone who cruises e30zone all night and spends a bit more than the mrs. would like on genuine ///M goodies then wind your neck in and have some respect for people who genuinely pour their heart and soul into something.

I can't remember what other people said and am not bored enough to quote what everyone's said but there you go, a bit of an explanation to hopefully let people see the thought behind the car.

Oh, the reason it was on the e30zone stand is because it's an e30 that is actually being used. It's been on TV, it's simple, it's pure, and it's all 100% DIY. The men in charge realise my car has it's own little spot in the e30 world and they wanted to promote the club on a unique car, if it's offended you that they put stickers on my car then please take it up with them, but I suggest you just take a step back and chill out instead as it's really not such a big deal.

Oh and Re: cable ties, this seems to really make people happy in a "wahey, cable ties, you bodgy twat". If you have better suggestions of fastening systems then please chirp up.

If you've not realised, a lot of the time when in a COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT, that's right, not the pub meet on a Sunday, you might smash into other people or trackside objects. This then sometimes requires straightening out, so you just snip a couple of cable ties and maybe undo a couple of bolts left in and then bend out the panel or whatever and put it back on again all in 2mins. Back on track to compete again.

If I have a bottle or container or bit of wiring that I need holding in place then generally I'll use cable ties there too, they make sense as they are super quick and easy to take off and they are almost free. In the fullness of time I'll make brackets for what needs brackets and make better fastening methods for various panels etc, but the truth is I spend enough time just getting the car together rather than spending a couple of hours cutting bending and welding up little fiddly brackets to do the same job as a 10second cable tie.

Again, if this displeases you then I'm sorry but I suggest you get off your high horse and realise why people do things, if you can do better then by all means come and lend a hand I'd appreciate a race mechanic's help from time to time. Oh no, you're just an internet twat with a massive post count who thinks he's the bee's knees.

MJG - I agree, there are too many keyboard heroes in the world (and on this forum). But generally the majority of members on here are genuine e30 enthusiasts who will understand that your car is function over form. Good luck with your drifting, I'm a big fan of the EDC as I'm friends with some of organisers.
