Hi - I am replacing the clocks in my e30, which I've done many times before ( SI boards, they're great ) but this time the top steering column shroud is stuck - I can't get it off>>?
The Haynes man says just rotate it up and lift it off....er....no! It's jammed solid...help!
cheers
Jim

Top steering column shroud shouldn't come right off without loosening the whole dashboard - there's a lip at the back.
Why do you want to remove it to change the cluster?

When you remove the dash panel above the shroud it will still take a bit of manouvering to remove the top shroud as part of it goes round the ignition. Takes patience and care so as not to damage it.

This might be a stupid question, but did you remove the two screws holding the shrouds in place? These are accessed by removing the steering wheel as far as I remember.

The fact remains that there's no need to remove any column shrouds or the steering wheel to remove the clocks!

Yes, your right Brian. All you really need to remove is the small panel above the upper shroud.
