Sorry,
BIW = Body In White = Just the pannels/structural members - painted, or as the car would start on the line.
I'm after a model containing as much of this as possible, which as justly pointed out, is -
A very long shot

I actually sat down and started modelling my car in Catia at uni, Inventor recently and gave up....
Sod that for a laugh.
I doubt you'll be getiing hold of BMW production models!

I was thinking of doing a nurbs model from the blueprints so that i can try out paint schemes, yet to learn nurbs though!

Jai, Those are incredible!
I think I may have to just put in the time and draw it then... I take it you guys could be interested in a copy, if this comes to fruit?

Modelling a car in catia / CAD is a long, long process buddy. I recently had to produce a wing, bonnet, door and A-pillar etc for an assignment and it takes hours to get it right!

I did this for a living (not BMW`s) and it takes an age mate,if you have the correct data that is.
Good luck .

Yea, the correct data is the main problem...
We had a Faro arm at uni and had to model the front end of an Aston Martin Vanquish. It was a LOT easier when you had full 3D co-ordinates. All excited I went home and started measuring with a tape measure and got bored very quickly. I then tried to free form surface model the outside and ended up with a boxy thing that looked like postman pats van with a nice E30 shaped wing. Gave up on that too!
I don't have the surface modelling experience. If you need a building drawn up in 2D and 3D autoCAD I'm your man.. LOL.
Need to get back to teaching myself some more object orientated 3D CAD stuff. I was learning Inventor in my spare time recently and have slipped somewhat. I do have some nice 3D animation on my other HD though. A friend and I modeled an E36 M3 front hub and brake set up with a mind to making a big brake conversion but it's on his computer..
I am after all, very lame.

Here are the blueprints i found
http://www.the-blueprints.com/index.php ... _1987__e30_/
Not sure if the engeneering crowd uses that kinda stuff, i come form the design side and use to polymoddelling the cars. But so far in a nurbs package the way is to draw the curves over the blueprint so you end up with a wireframe skeleton of the car, then do your surfaces around that. I can do the wireframe skeleton and provide it as IGES if that helps. This is of course if all you need is the exterior body model.
