big or small job

lookin to buy a new engine to replace the slow 1.8i, how hard would it be to change it to the e36 compact engine or the 318is engine. would it be one out one in or would it be harder..???

My other halfs car is an E36 compact 318ti, ie 1.9, wouldnt say it was a fast engine, doesnt really come alive until 4 grand are showing on the rev counter, good strong engine though, but over taking is another thing completly, Ive had quite a few moments of the ohmygodamigoingtomakeit

when trying to get past, the diesel job cars I drive are far superior for quick clean overtakes, might just be me but I get mega worked up when I try to out pull some bog standard clio/saxo etc and get left like a numpty in the outside lane wondering what I see in that badge on the steering wheel, ace on good twisty A and B roads though, as for the 2.5 lump in my touring nuff said
Sorry this sounds like an encyclopedia of owning a compact just letting you know my feelings on the engine.

the only trouble i dont want is the hassle of changing every thing...or do i mmmmm
or is that right the 318is engine will go straight in as everythings the same..
