E30 Zone

only bought my first 325 sport after wanting one for ages. got it home and took it driving for the first time, whilst drivng it caught fire above the glovebox.

i have already advertised for a 2nd loom on the wanted parts, however i was wondering if any of you guys have any previous experience fitting a wiring loom?

i will be able to dismantle the dashboard etc, but would the rest be a matter of slotting one plug out and replacing it with the new one?

the car starts and drives, but some lights don't work and some stay on contanstly, my electric windows and sunroof doesnt work either.

There's a loom that plugs into a large socket at the back of the glovebox and runs across behind the top of the dash, there's a heater loom, and there's a central locking/windows loom, which is largely under the carpets, which are easy enough to change, but if it's the main loom that's damaged, then you have a major problem.
It runs from the front right of the car, across the front, back the LH inner wing to the fusebox, down into the cabin, a branch across the dash, back the LH sill, a branch across the rear seat, back the LH side of the boot and across the back. Car needs to be pretty well stripped to change it, and all has to fed back into the engine compartment.

As Mr Moore has said it depends whats happened and what aprt of the loom has been destroyed sounds like a dead short to me..
Pics maybe required as glove box is fairly easy to strip down

Probably traceable to some dodgy alarm install from the past.

If you can get some pictures up, then hopefully we can guide you from there.

Pictures of what's damaged would be helpful, if the damage to the main loom isn't too bad then it might be worth repairing (properly) instead of out & out replacement.

Where are you based also, as I may be available to help with repairs if you're fairly close by (my favourite dish, electrics)
