Dif Maintenance

Hi All,
I've got a limited slip dif on the my beamer, and was wondernig what needed to be done on it to keep it running smoothe. More to the point to make it run a bit smoother.
I have to say that I've not done anything with it in the 3 years I've had the car and don't think anything will have been done prior to that.
Someone said something about me having a singing dif... which meant nothing to me, but I wasn't convinced it was a good thing.
