Hi All,
Today I screwed up and left my lights on whilst at work, then after 9 hours - yup you guessed it flat battery. I now want to connect the gong to the lights. So a search or few on here reviles Smithy has done a mod - but can I find it? Only the circuit diagram.

Is it an easy wire switch around or have I got to add a few wire and spice them in. Can anyone help me out here, with any suggestions.

You can fit anything from the correct OE E30 lights on warning unit from a BMW dealer, to a cheap buzzer and diode connected between the instrument panel lights and the driver's door pin switch for the interior lights.

Just did an egosearch and found this.
Just replied to your PM.

Unless you can find a gong from the USA or SA with seatbelt warning, I would just fit a simple buzzer between the door switch and the dashboard illumination.

A new (special) gong will set you back £41.88 PN. 65811376047

The gong I am using came from a guy called Fporro on ebay and cost about $25

Hi.

This part come up as just an OBC gong. I have a the full computer installed in my car - is there anything I need to do to activate this feature?

This uses a second gong as a warning for the headlights. By connecting the pin on the OBC gong marked +1 to the dashboard illumination and the pin marked 4b- to the drivers door switch.

Using an OBC gong with seatbelt warning which is still attached to the rest of the OBC is a little bit more complicated...

You will need a Bosch style 5 pin relay, and to verify your annoying ass chime thing actually works. If you turn your key to accessory and open up the drivers door, do you hear the thing chiming away? If so good. Something that I always do to my car is I hate the fact the annoying loud chime is for something I really don't care about, and the muffled "ding" is letting me know there might be ice on the road or I hit my set MPH. Lets make that three chimes while were at it.

First things first, find and access your chime module. You'll need to remove the drivers side knee bolster. Additionally, you will want to remove the screws that hold the lower steering column cover on. You shouldn't need to remove it, which requires pulling the wheel, but if you wish to do so it wouldn't hurt. Ok, so you have the relay and the chime and hopefully something to make splices (I like using crimp on butt connectors, so should you. solder and heatshrink is also good. scotch locks suck balls, but if thats what you got, they will do this time...) You'll also probably want a little bit of wire too.

Start at the column, and look for a connector with four large openings at one end, and four small ones at the other. Look for a Brown/Green wire and a Brown/Red OR Green/Violet wire. (Note: That wire is Green/Violet coming from the car, and Brown/Red as it goes up the column from that connector. A good way to be sure you are at the right connector looking at the right wire)

Splice them together. To check if you did it right, that chime should start chiming any time the door is open. If you didn't do it right, you suck. Undo what you did and try again, making sure you have the right wires. They should be thin ones.

Ok, now that you have that out of the way, you can put the column cover screws back in, work in that area is done. On to the headlight switch!

At the headlight switch, look for a Gray/Yellow wire. Splice into it with some of that wire you have laying around. This will have +12v with the parking lights on.

Now to the chime... Cut the Brown/Green wire (Always leave enough to connect to later!) and the Brown/Blue wire. Grab your relay, and connect pin 87 to the Brown/blue wire, and where the Brown/Green wire went into the chime. (see why you left some to connect to later?)
(Note: The Brown/Blue wire is ONLY applicable to 13 button OBC cars)

Connect the wire from the headlight switch to pin 85.

Connect the Brown/Green wire you cut off the chime to pin 86 and 30.

Now to test! Pull your parking lights on and open the door, the relay should click, and the chime should chime. If you have problems, disconnect the Brown/Green wire from 30, and run 30 straight to ground. Try it again.

Now set your M MPH button on your 13 button and give it a try. Three chimes right? Sweet.

Read through this whole write up, and find all these wire colors before you start cutting and splicing stuff. Some cars are different. This is definitely right for an '87, and it's probably right for most E30s.
