Where are they located exactly?

Is a 318iS and 318i the same work?

Dull question I know but need to know.

Chars.

Under the gearbox :)

Towards the back. Same work on both those models, and not much work at that.

How long to do - sorry I have never done any work there and have no idea.

Have ordered the bits so just need to attack armed with some info.

Even the back of the gearbox is light enough to lift by hand!

what's the best thing to do when you can't get one of the cross member bolts undone where it bolts to the chassis.

I assume the end of the bolt that sits in the rail on the floor has a "square" top to it which sits in the rail?

I am trying to get the cross member off ready to pull out the engine & box but the nut on the driver side is just spinning the whole bolt. Have tried jamming a screw driver into the rail whilst undoing the nut but the whole lot is turning.

Any ideas other than getting the angle grinder and destroying the nut? Or is that the best option?

I just levered down on the braket with a tyre lever putting loads of tension on it so it would'nt rotate. It's really annoying when this happens though :-x

Angle grinder will sort it, if levering down won't. New bolt's not expensive.
You may even be able to slide the mount along to where the bolt drops out, once the gearbox rubbers and the other bolt are off.
