Silly question time - but did you actually connect the ariel part of the ariel (ie the cable that feeds the head unit!), I once ired one of them up and it worked perfick everytime I strarted the radio, but never did reconnect the actual signal cable!

Would a bad earth make much difference?
I've just fitted a new aerial to my 325i and the reception is also poor.
My aerial is fitted on the rear right wing and there is not way of seeing the condition of the metal under the wing.
Would it be possible to wrap a wire around the base of the aerial and earth that somewhere?
Peter

you might need a suppresor kit, just a box of tricks that cuts/dampens down all the electrical noise going on in the car, if memory stands right it connects to the power supply abit like an inline fuse would do, had to do this to a few of my older cars when fitting new stereos. Halfrauds should sell them no idea of the price though not that expensive.

im getting this problem too, however didnt use an elecy aerial, just a bog standard one to fill the gap for now
being elecy, it cant be ab ad earth, im thinking either the aerial cable itself has cut somehwere, maybe near either the connector end at the radio, or that water penetration could be the culprit?
Ive kinda jsut got used to it unfortunately!

Did you check the Female socket that you plugged the new aerial into.
I had the same problem when I replaced mine. What I found was the female side of the socket had become distorted where the previous owner had pulled the plug out and the the connection to the centre pin to the conductor was broken.
Just something else to check.

Does sound like you have a problem with the co-ax cable somewhere, are you sure it is properly connected at both ends?

also that there's not a short between inner and outer, just one strand is enough to ruin reception - same as TV aerials (remember them kids?)

yeah ive even put new plugs on the ends and still not a great improvement, just might have too fill the hole and go for a roof mounted sting, dont want too though will spoil the look of my car
