Which Chips and power

What chips are people using on their 6 pots?
Any differences in fuel consumption?
Do you have to use better quality petrol?
Does the engine run any hotter?
Can you specify a chip to boost power in a specific engine speed range??

I have the zone 3 "hairy" chip. It's upped the idle to 950-1000 rpm and has made the whold revrange much smoother, and there are some nice gains. The thing that has most surprised me though is the IMPROVEMENT in fuel economy!!! I had the tappets done at the same time but I'm definetly using less fuel

?
With my standalone engine management system my idle is about 500rpm when it first starts (I have to hold the accelerator pedal for a couple of minutes) then it sits about 900rpm and when it gets warm it is about 1100 to 1200. What is the chip like compared to that?
It has minimal or no power gains.
Petrol consumption is worse now than before the ECU. I have to use 98 octane which makes it more expensive too, although I'm not worried about that because I would only use 98 anyway.
This is after a full dyno tune and then taking it back to get adjusted about 3 or 4 times.
Maybe I should just have gone with a chip too. The only good thing is that I can now add forced induction or even do a complete engine swap a lot easier. The new ECU will control boost and stuff.
Oh well,

WIDGE Q
Hi mate , iwas thinking of gettin a chip soon and this Hairy chip sounds like just the thing for me , not so much for the fuel econemy but you said there were some nice gains , can you give me some idea of what sort of gains they are and also out of curiousity what was the extent of the mpg gain , and how much for the chip ?
Is it just a case of poppin the chip in and nowt else ?
I have a E plate 325 in lasch silver !!!
Everybody knows silver cars are faster !

Widge, Im guessing thats a 2.5 youve got at the mo? Is it standard or an upgraded motor?
Are there different stages of Zone chips, or was this one a custom made mapping?
I dont suppose anyone has a before and after dyno printout?
Who does the zone chips?

Right guys I can't give any numbers to back up my claim of power gains, but it certainly drives better. The car is standard apart from the chip, and the MPG gains are around town when the OBC would usually read 17-19mpg it now reads 21-23mpg. I have only noticed the mpg gains because I'm not filling up as often when on the motorway from Leeds to Newcastle.
Ants Email to me wrote:Zone 1: this chip is fairly extreme, it gives much improved response to
throttle inputs, the idle is raised to 900 rpms to aid in smooth progression
from idle to full throttle.
It features a higher (7K rpm) limit and has a unique tweak to help with
acceleration through upshifts, this chip features heavily revised fuel and
ignition curves which remove all the flatspots normally associated with the
M20 engine, an excellent midrange power boost and improved full throttle
response.
This chip has seen gains of 7-12hp on its own, with a similar torque
increase, this really is as good as an off the shelf chip can be, you can
add this chip to a stock engine and achieve good results, however it will
really shine when combined with a bored throttle body, and especially when
used with a cam or in conjuction with a capactiy increase
Zone 2: this milder chip will give increased response throughout the rev
range with idle characteristics similar to the original, this would
typically yield a 4-7 HP gain and improved drive-ability. If you don't plan
any internal engine mods then this ones for you.
This chip also works very well on automatic cars, thanks to the smooth
delivery and almost stock idle
They are Ԛ£55 hope this helps
