E30 Zone

Hullo

New to the e30 zone. After many years of running BMW 2002s as my everyday car, family demands mean that my current tii has to go so I'm looking to 'upgrade' to an e30 touring 318 or 320.

My wife is a bit of a tree hugger and is demanding that any e30 that joins the family must have a catalytic converter. I know that cats were an option on e30s after 1988 and compulsory (in the UK) after 1992.

My question is: is possible to retro-fit a cat converter to a car that wasn't originally supplied with one?

Change he wife! it will be easier...

It could be done, but surely it's more un tree friendly to throw away a good exhaust system and then fit a cat / carbon canister / breather pipes etc.

All of the later tourings should have a CAT, or just tell the wife there is one fitted anyway...

Think of all the CO2 your body will produce whilst fitting it all!

Having said that, if you do want all the kit I have it on a touring I'm currently dismantling.

Yeah, i've just been told that cats will often be a bit useless at more than 10 years old - clogged up etc.

Hope your going to ask strong money for the tii, especially if it's in half decent condition.

Run the new E30 on LPG and be truly green!

my vote is for lpg over the cat anyday of the week. will cost about the same as fitting a new cat as well

cats are crap. they use much more fuel. dont bother just tell her it has one

i will have a full cat system for a 320 available soon if you want it. and the m20b20.
will quite happily sell the exhaust. 02 sensor and ECU (back box is only a week old) for £50 when it comes out of the car.
